I'm not dissing the price 'cause I know custom is not cheap butI am glad I have seats that are in "like new" shape!!

they is immaculate! And that price is how much I spent getting a new fuel delivery and spark system on the old piggie, so...

Although, I'd want to see how they would wear first--if anything like the original, I'd call it a good investment. My seat covers are not too shabby--just the stuffing has deteriorated.:D

For a seat cover they look pretty good. I'm not dishing the money the guy is spending to have another person make the covers nor the time looking through tons of samples from different manufactures for the best fabric. Believe me I've done it and it isn't always the funnest thing to do. Including when a customer cant make up their mind or they change it in the middle of a job. Seat covers are very easy to make. And you don't have to worry about having the customer say the fitting doesn't look or feel right because they just slip it over their old worn our fabric. Its different when you take on old vehicle seat and strip it down to bare metal, restore the metal, replace worn springs, and start from a solid base and then return it to the customer like it were brand new. Or a custom interior. I was free labor for my dad. But if he had to pay a shop to sew everything up... just think how much the cost would be to the customer. Now if he were doing all this to my front bench and rear seats... it would be worth it to me. He might also look into other vehicles if he really wants to make money as I know those patterns are used in other older vehicles.

Oh-I didn't realize that these were just covers--I thought it was the fabric and the end user would have to strip and install. I do agree its pricey--anymore it seems like piggy stuff just keeps getting steeper. Had someone offer me sunvisors for 100 firm.

Those look like more than just covers to me. I think that's the actual uphostery for the seat that goes over the foam or whatever is underneath the factory vinyl.

I'm sure Shane will let us know who is correct.

Wow amazing how we can make assumptions without all the facts.

I sent Shane my front seat fabric. It had a few tears in it but was original. That was over a year ago. He has been in the process of finding the exact material that was original (except for the small x's in the pattern)

He made patterns from my seat as well as others willing to donate to the cause and go without until these were done. From my conversations with Shane these are exact replicas of the seats that came out of my truck. This is not something you slide over your old seat and pull a string. This is the real deal. 55 seats are not easy to reproduce. Trust me it took me an hr removing the wires and hog rings to get it off.

They are correct replacements first off.

Material is NOT available any place since it is not US made.....I paid all the money to have a company reproduce the color and pattern for the 40 series that I love so much. The 55 was by accident and while I was at full speed I had the black done as well......Then while having the 40 series door panles made since the 74-78 are no longer available and found out the 55 panels were the same material, so why not have those done as well?

They will have all the wire installed in the listings and come with hog rings to attach them to the frame.

Call around and see what it costs to have a "Bench seat" or yours patterned and made......Please do.

Costs

One time patterning fee of $340.00 ( I paid for the greater good)

Pewter material $72 @ 3 yards= $216.00
Black diamonds $66 @ 2 yards= $132.00
assembly of seat 5 hours @ $50= $250.00

Total of $598.00

Then you have lisings that have to be made as the pre made stuff is not wide enough, wire, scrim foam, thread, 3/32'nds welt cord and hog rigs that I supply for $680.00

I am sure most can see between the lines, these are for nice trucks, restorations or people who want to have correct interior. Not for trail rigs

Best,

Shane

Dead nutz replacements!

I am sure you could still strip the fabric off your old seat and refab it then hog ring the seat covers on. If there is enough material to do so. To do this the correct way there should be a wire installed in the bottom seam that hog rings to the underneath of the seat. Otherwise it will tear and you'll be pissed that your investment is now torn.
Course there is wire and it would need to be hogg ringed into place. They are EXACT duplicates..

It sucks that everything is getting more expensive!

These are specific to FJ55 only:rolleyes: not some saddle slip cover...But I am sure thats what you meant..

They will wear better as the company tells me why the factory vinyl failed is the backing would not stretch and the vinyl would causing seperation of the two.

When I was a teen my dad owned a Hot Rod Shop that was custom. On the side he had an upholstery business with a co-owner. That is where the upholstery was done for the cars and trucks. Guess what I got to do for free every day all through Jr High and half way through High School until I finally told my dad I had to do my own thing?

Yep I worked in the Hot Rod shop doing body work and mechanical as well as every day after school I tore down seats and riped out headliners. Then made patterns and sowed them up. I also had the fun job of doing the same thing for his co-owner with her home furniture and fine antiques. I know how much it cost and whats involved to do the seat covers. I can restore both front and rear seats to new for less. But thats just me. If folks want to pay about 1300 dollars on a front and rear seat cover then thats their money and I'm not making an attempt to take their happiness away nor am I trying to take away dudes lively hood. I just wanted to explain why I was awed at the price for some seat covers.

It's expensive to be correct.......

Mine are in good shape but I think I might redo them anyway.

ATTLAS... Did you notice where I said there are other vehicles that use that very same Pewter pattern as well. I know some of the toyota cars used the very same material. Also there is another pattern in the 55's... I didnt notice the pattern in either of the photo's.
I dont know of any Toyota's that use the same vinyl, But I sent 3x3 samples to every vinyl house in the country and I did get some stuff that was sooooooo clode, but they had minimal yardage and I bought it all years ago.....Then I had someone that said "I can make it for you" and here we are......

AATLAS1X Very nice  Door panel set will they come the Masonite backing ?

They will have the correct backer boards, as for the clips KIEF is sending me some sample ones to see if I can match up. If not Toyota??

Well I wasn't trying to jump to any conclusions, it was more of a first lust "ME WANT" looking at them and then sobering up when I looked at my bank account =).

Rest assured that I will be squirreling away for these.

Yep. I agree.

And well, lets see Two tailgate seals ~500.00 + 230.00 cargo seal + fixed quarter window rubber+ wing vent rubber + XXXX+.............Actually, in perspective, very reasonable prices on rare remade rubber and now wonderfully seat covers.

We all know the real costs and how much we skate by on some things. What a 90.00 toyota washer bottle motor If they still had it?

Me Want too. Guess I will have to go look under the PO's vynl seat covers now.

Shane,
Those are amazing! I have to say, while pricey, they are the BEST anyone has ever done for seat covers for an FJ55. They are perfect.

Would you sell the other stuff(tubing of correct color) -beyond the correct vinyl) that would be needed to recover say recaro buckets to match these?

There is another weave pattern used for the centers.... I didnt see it... do you have it as well? If you like I can try to get you a sample some how... maybe even just a digital photo. My seat is still in good shape.

Yep, mine has a different pattern, looks more like a weave than a diamond pattern. I can shoot a picture of mine if desired.

I'd like to see a picture.

All I have ever seen is the diamond pattern.

The enterprise rep here at the office has a 55 and it has a weave, A little look deeper founf that it was a recover and only on the front.

Again, I have only seen what I repoped and I cant tell you how many pieces I was given, bought or begged for.
