Just saw those horrific dates, 19th through the 22nd (Wednesday to Saturday [?])
Can’t make that
Where are you seeing these horrific dates?

Lots of hinting around but I haven’t seen anything officially declaring dates or locations, maybe we can get @PabloCruise to put something together and modify the first post so that info is easier to find.

“We are targeting 19 through 22 June.” Are these the “official” dates?

The Dakar ended 17th of January is Kurt back and has anybody made definitive plans with him?

We are thinking about trying to make this event but might need a better understanding of the details before I can get my wife to commit to the time off work.

Hi All,

I got a chance to catch up with Kurt, @cruiseroutfit it was nice of him to spend some time talking about our little Pig Party.

The short story is that they are getting some very nice snowfall right now that might limit access to some of the nice trails outside Salt Lake City (SLC) for our time frame (2nd half of June). Great news is that there are lots of options in the area if we get snowed out of some options.

I confirmed with Kurt that we want to run trails out of a base camp. He knows of lots of primitive camp options that will not require reservations or permits. These options do include pit toilets.

If they have a hot, dry spring the snow will disappear quickly, we should be able to make a decision by mid-May.

One idea Kurt suggested is the idea of starting our adventure at the Cruiser Museum on Tuesday afternoon, and then driving a couple hours outside of SLC on Weds AM so we can set up camp and be all set. There are hotels near the museum, as well as a KOA that they used during Cruiser Fest.

I will add some detail over the weekend, just wanted to get some of the latest updates out there for you all!

No sir, we will know more about the local snowpack in mid-May...

Good point! I think until we know more about snowpack and local conditions, it would be safer to plan on Tuesday - 18 June - afternoon at the Land Cruiser Heritage Museum, then stay at the KOA down the street and then we are off on an adventure to parts as yet unknown Weds AM.

Hope that helps...

Kurt is saying at this point we will probably have to rule out the higher elevation areas E of SLC b/c of the excellent snowpack they are building. We should know more by early May...

It looks like you have missed a few postings @J Mack - I have talked to Kurt @cruiseroutfit . Are plans definitive? No - The snowpack has been abundant and that will likely rule out a few options Kurt was thinking of for us.

Current plan is to meet at the Land Cruiser Heritage Museum Tuesday - 18 Jun - evening and do a tour, camp at the KOA down the street and then head out w/ Kurt Weds AM.

We won't know more about options until May. I get it if some people are not comfortable with uncertainty. If you need trail run assignments by day, Cruise Moab will be perfect for you. If you want to hang out with Pigs ala Rico, CO style, I am sure we will find some fun things to do.

Kurt is helpful, but also incredibly in demand, so I try not to wear him out. I will call him towards the end of the month and update the group if that works for everyone...

Your wish is my command @J Mack

Could be some truth to that but my question was answered when you said “we still don’t have definitive plans” so no matter how many post I would have read I wouldn’t have found them.

As long as I can get a warm Megadoomer shower I’m good with all the other uncertainty.

If you need trail run assignments by day, Cruise Moab will be perfect for you.
Not sure I’m looking for trail run assignments by day or a Cruise Moab trail rating system as you already know I’ll go with the flow and try anything once.

We are talking about bringing both pigs but logistically this would present some challenges depending on what the camping locations look like. I was digging in a bit further this weekend to see if anyone had a tentative schedule before I spent too much more time exploring this plan.

Thanks.

Is it unreasonable or unrealistic for this to stretch from the 15th to the 23rd?

I think you are good to stretch it out as long as possible!

I am not going to be able to do much more beyond the 18th and then departing on the 22nd.

We are likely facing some limited trail options because of the excellent snow pack.

I will see if I can get Kurt @cruiseroutfit on the horn towards the end of next week and start weighing our options.

Salt Lake City KOA @ 1400 W North Temple, Salt Lake City, UT 84116 looks to be the closest to the Land Cruiser Heritage Museum - 2.9 miles away.

I made a reservation for Tuesday night - 18 June - $72.84

I asked her to put me where there is some spaces around me for others. I also asked for a space that could accommodate a pop-up.

If you call to make reservations, ask to be put near the Scholand's camp spot.

I am hitting a few motels on the way to SLC and they are about the same price per night.
