Holy cow, the last time I was in here I think this thread had 3 pages!
I haven't been able to read everything in here, but I have seen a lot of good ideas, including one idea about possibly joining an existing TLCA event.
This is an interesting idea for a few reasons...
Since it seems like there is genuine interest in another Pig Party, I was wondering if the event might have to become "official". The most logical choice would be to make it legit with the TLCA. I know there are many benefits of having a bona-fide TLCA event, but I think a big one is insurance. As awful as it is to think about someone getting hurt at a Pig Party, anything is possible.
As an event, we are a pretty small group, and specific to one vehicle type, which might not make for an ideal TLCA event.
I just got back (one week ago, crazy catching up since then) from the20th Annual Black Hills Cruiser Classic in South Dakota. This is a GREAT event, and you will not find a nicer group of folks than the DTC crew.
I think one idea we should strongly consider is hosting the 2018 Pig Party at the BHCC. I know location is a challenge for a lot of folks. I think we had a great spot at Cayton/Rico for PP'17, but some folks drove a far ways. South Dakota is a little more central US, but also a little bit further North. I am not sure if we could ever find an ideal location for everyone with Pigs, but I think the BHCC is an event that may be ideal for us to "Piggy-Back" onto for a few different reasons.
This is not a giant event that can run out of registration slots like other events. I know Cruise Moab fills regularly. There was plenty of space at the campground where I think we could all be together. They had basic tent sites all the way up to sites with water, electric and sewer.
I used to think that the only trails the Black Hills had were chock full of granite boulders that would not be very fun in a Pig-like wagon. This year on of the DTC members organized an awesome run that covered ~100 miles that took us out to a couple of old fire look-out towers, an old outlaw hide-away, some waterfalls, and a stone arch. The organizer would like to expand on this trip and make it an over-night run that starts (or ends) down by Badlands Nat'l Park. This would be a stellar trip, and would not tear up a stock Pig. There are more difficult trails that built Pigs could do, all the way up to the rock-buggy "cereal bowl circuit"; Captain Crunch, Fruity Pebbles, Cheerios...
One of my favorite parts about BHCC is there is so much to do in the immediate area that my wife loves this event as well.
I took the step of asking some of the DTC members about possibly hosting the Pig Party at their event and I got a really warm response to the idea. Maybe we could kick the idea around a little bit and then invite some of the DTC folk to weigh in here?
EDIT: I forgot to mention what a kid-friendly event BHCC is. Tons of kids and they just flock together and roam free all over the camp ground. The DTC crew add lots of things for the kids, the kids just about run the raffle. Great fun for my boy, which is another reason the wife likes this event.
