Rear Coil Stabilizer Plates:

Holy cow, Chuck! I didn't realize this was your beast! What a cool project! I'll be drooling often. Thanks for the piggy hood, man!

Stu

Thanks Stu! I'll see what else I have in the parts stash I won't be needing. I'll send 'em on when Marshall comes to pick up his stuff next Sunday. :)

Realizing how much different the TJ rear suspension is set up from an LC, with the large upward bow in the frame over the rear axle vs. a flat frame over the rear axle in the LC, I knew I'd be stuck with small height coils. So, in order to achieve max flex, I had to fab up 4 coil stabilizer plates to hold the coils in the buckets, top & bottom. I'll be using stock height TJ coils, not the one's in the pic :frown:

Modified Rear Coil Buckets:

For the top, frame mounted bucket (left), I had to drill & tap some 3/4" round stock for 1/2" X 13, welded top & bottom. On the bottom one (right), all I had to do is drill thru & weld a 1/2" bolt on the backside. I went ahead & showed the coil retainers for reference:

Nutha Pic:

Shown is the upper bucket again, this time with the bumpstop added. That reminds me I'll have to countersink the bolt on the bottom coil bucket so the bumpstop doesn't get all chewed up by the bolt head ;p

Rear Coils & Shocks Mounted:

Finally, got this all painted up. I'll have to remove a little mat'l. from the top of the bumpstops cuz they weren't designed to house a 1/2" bolt & therefore wouldn't fit. Still have to fab up a cover for the top of where the shocks protrude thru the floor. Rear links will be coming up soon ;p

I got a chance to see this thing in person today. Wow. Very nice and Chuck is a really cool guy. I now realize the pictures make everything look bigger than it is, Becuse I was expecting to see a lead sled. But with it standing in front of you you realize how little weight there really is. Nothing out of the ordinary. Chucks metal skills are amazing. His shop is amazing with room after room of d60's d'70 mopar stuff, atlas cases, all in perfect shape. Everything lined up and exactly where it ought to be.

55 looked great cannot wait to wheel with it. Thanks again for hooking me up with all the parts. They will help out a lot of pigs.

Thanks man! I luv to go wheelin out west! I did Cruise Moab 7 yrs. ago & THAT was a drive. Haven't done CO yet, but I'm waitin for a TLCA chapter out there in CO to host an event. Also need to work out any bugs locally before I make another long trip :) Right now, I'm waiting on a vendor for my braided oil cooler fittings/ lines so I can finish up that part in the engine bay. And, I'm also waiting on a shop to dial in my front cryo'd diff gears so I can get rollin on my front axle/ link setup. I'm on it everyday, shootin for next summer, I hope :hillbilly:

Finished Boxing The Rear:

Initially, I was going to finish off this area behind the rear doors by cutting some flames in the sheet metal, but as always, I'm changing my mind  Nutha  was to just cut off more sheet metal & align the panel w/ the transom. I felt this was a better & cleaner look:

Fabbed up the mount for my Southco compression latch. I'll need to reshape the catch on the latch cuz it rattles slightly :whoops:

Looking good Chuck! I need to get out there for a visit some time to see this thing in real life! Maybe the next time I go visit my pig...which needs to be soon!

Thanks Heatha ;p
You are welcome to stop by anytime. Better get here soon as the remaining :pig: parts will be given away. I've been waiting on a thread update :D Can't wait to see what they've done lately.

scroll to hearts content. You must not hang around rodders much if you don't know what "french" refers to in sheet metal terms. ;)

I agree the way I mounted it doesn't seem as though I gave it much thought. I checked out the link & it looks like a good  for sheet metal use. I bet it wouldn't compromise the structure of the cage *very much. Hang on for pics.....:hillbilly:
