PCV Grommet Woes

Almost embarrassed to post this but i have bought three PCV grommets and cant get ant to seat into the pipe. The last was an OEM grommet for 2F engines. It will NOT seat into the pipe. The OEM grommet has a cone shaped bottom and if i feel inside the pipe there is a lip. The cone will not fit down over the lip. Another listed grommet was flat but it did not work either. What have you used that works? `The original is brittle and wasted.`````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````

I got no clue what exactly you are talking about from your description. Heat gun works well on PVC to soften it enough to deform in place. Maybe some pic's would help.

Maybe a little rubber grease and massage it down onto the pipe? Or the pipe itself is buggered up?

What are the part numbers of the grommets you used?

First ensure that your valve is oriented correctly. The valve itself has a larger and smaller diameter side. The larger diameter side forces the grommet to be expanded more than the other. Second...use sil glyde grease on the grommet.

Is your PCV valve OE or aftermarket?

Pic#1 is an aftermarket valve/grommet. Total carnage/failure = unhappy primate sounds and frustration.
Pic#2 is a comparison of OE and after market valves. OE on the right.
Pic#3 OE valve and grommet.
Pic#4 mission complete = happy primate sounds.

The aftermarket valve tail section (fits into the “pipe”) was slightly larger in diameter and the barb is larger. The aftermarket grommet was a harder stiffer compound, had a somewhat “plastic” feel to it. OE grommet is softer and more pliable. I don’t have a side by side comparison of the grommets but as I recall there were noticeable differences.

This was my experience and there may be better aftermarket options however, recommend OE .

The problem is not the PCV fitting in the grommet but the grommet fitting into the pipe . I have used plenty of lube The part no for the OEM grommet is 90480=18180 from Toyota Direct

I can’t confirm that there is supposed to be a lip inside the “pipe”. I don’t recall there being one the last time I cleaned my valve and seated the grommet. Doesn’t mean there isn’t one, I just have no recollection of one.

Something stuck inside the tube?

My spare access cover is three hours away otherwise I’d check to confirm. Maybe someone with a spare can verify.

Can you get a phone over the opening and snap a pic?

Have you tried installing the grommet into the pipe without the PCV and then inserting the PCV into the grommet? Pretty sure that's my normal MO - but I haven't replaced one in a while.

Tried everything Here is a picture of the pipe and OEM grommet. I am convinced that everything is 50 yo origina;

A large portion of the grommet is still in there.

Brian = You are right. The lip that I thought was part of the pipe was actually a piece of the old grommet. Thanks everyone . You would not believe how much time ive spent on this 5 minute job.

Mine is the older version and I haven’t found any success on it. The rubber grommet on mine doesn’t move at all and neither does the metal plunger piece.
