Yeah they definitely aren't cheap and even if you go with an older one you are still only looking at maybe a 20% savings from new.
There are some good DIY type videos and what not out there on the interwebz that make it look semi easy. Also depends on what you plan to make the sides out of wand what all you want it to encompass. All that adds to the complexity.

A quick heads up! I have raised my boost by shimming the waste gate. Probably about 6 or so millimeters. The truck's driveability has improved even more, EGT's have come down a bit, and mileage has improved. I got 375 miles out of my last tank (about 19.21 mpg) as calculated in mixed, moderate to heavy footed driving! I am thinking that an inter-cooler would work wonders for this thing. The mighty 2H is holding steady. Still running without an exhaust (just a 16" stub off the turbo). I am going to install a Provent 200 soon, to deal with the oil in the intake. I am still smoking black under load but not as bad. Still have not touched the fuel screw. I shall post more videos of the truck soon.

Been a while since any updates on here. I have installed a full exhaust on the truck. Much quieter now but still sounds great. I finally got a Provent catch can so I will post pics of the install and report the findings. I am sure my intake will dry up a bit. At this point the truck is in great mechanical shape, so next I have to address the rust issues; if I will ever get to that...

That must be turbo damage from frame twisting and wheely , still possible to patch, I just heard I have to weld the other side of the spring, afraid to poke the side you show above

Frame is made to tow 5000 kilo, still a lot of strength left.

Sure, they are 1" into 5/8"from stainless diesel, here in the USA

I'm a Saab guy and an FJ60 guy. What you could do is see if you can find a Saab 900 turbo in a junkyard from 1986-1993. Those years had "APC" which works really well at controlling boost and monitoring the engine for knock. It uses a knock sensor mounted to the block, a control box, and a solenoind valve that meters engine vacuum to a wastegate actuator. When the knock sensor triggers it dumps boost. The system has a base boost mechanically set in the linkage and then typically runs up to 12 or so psi. Modded control boxes will go higher. Should work with any vacuum wastegate actuator.


Somehow missed this was a diesel I blame it on my excitement (lack or reading comprehension) of the project. Thinking the Saab system probably won't work as it was built for Gasoline and the various vibrations in a diesel would probably send the knock sensor into hysterics.

Thank u! I wanted this thing running and operating as it should. Now, the cosmetics are next, pressing on. I wanted to sell it a month or two ago but eBay didn't come through, so I decided to fix the rust. The reason for selling was that, the rust. I wanted to buy a nice rust free, truck that wouldn't need any work. At this point, after my wife convinced me to keep it, I think it's here to stay for a good while.

frame swap is not that bad. I believe you mentioned having a donor. Good luck with it and look forward to seeing your progress. I just picked up a rusty one from BC. Look forward to assessing it to see if I can save it.
