I have been commuting with the truck. Turned the screw on the pump back a quarter turn at a time, since there was still some black smoke under load. This thing had been tempered with in the past by po, when the engine was tired. All the extra fueling does nothing, just gets wasted.
I am now at 21 to 22 mpg with barely any smoke.
I think I may have this where I need it to be.
Will report again after my next fill up.

This afternoon I replaced oil, filter, fuel filter and transmission fluid. Used some of that good royal purple stuff. Thought I had sufficient for the tcase, but I need an extra quart, so that will happen over the weekend.
I am going to try these Japanese made oil filters, since they are a third of the price of the Yota ones.

Tcase fluid replaced as well. The shifting improved drastically. That tractor supply oil wasn't cutting it. Came out grey out of that tranny!
