I haven't even gotten a visual on mine yet....not sure what the outside looks like....of course the inside could look worse even. I just want to get that done and put it to rest. Funny, the more I decide I want to do the more I find I HAVE to do.

Removing starter makes it easy but its not necessary. Of course if you do, the contacts and plunger are cheap if you are inclined to rebuild the starter

Was it necessary to remove the fender to get to it?;)
 
Get a 6 ft piece of green stripe or Napa yellow stripe, and a box of breeze clamps. do the phh bypass (sooooooo much easier), and use the remaining hose and clamps to replace all the hoses on the firewall.

You may be able to get a discont on both if you ask
 
Why is the NC DMV so friggen ass backwards.

I've always heard of their stupidity from horror stories on this board and by people in person.

So we get a letter in the mail saying that we have had a lapse of coverage in our NC insurance... well no Sh$T.

So I call them to explain we no longer live in NC.

Did you come to the DMV to turn the plates in?

ME:No I couldn't exactly do that and then drive the vehicle across the country could I?

Be that as it may sir we still require you to turn them in. Why didn't you register the vehicle in the new state before driving there so you could have plates for it?

ME:Well that is kind of hard to do without the car being there as they need to physically see it.

Ok well we still need the plates back.

ME:Sure, i'll mail them to you can I get an address.

She gives me the address
We will also need you to mail in the penalty for letting your insurance lapse.

ME:My insurance hasn't lapsed I opened up my WA policy and closed the NC policy the same day with the same company.

Yes sir but the car is still registered in NC because you didn't turn the plates back in and we require and car that is registered in NC to be under a NC policy. You should have turned the plates back in before you canceled the policy.

ME:We've already been through the reason I couldn't physically turn the plates back in and if I had mailed them to you guys would you have let me know that it was ok to now cancel my policy?

No you would have had to call us to check and make sure we had them.

ME:Ok that doesn't make any sense but back to the matter at hand I moved states had to get insurance for my new state and the car is registered with tags from the new state so I don't see how I broke any policy since the insurance hasn't lapsed and myself and the vehicle is no longer in NC.

Well sir you shouldn't have switched over insurance until you returned the plates.

:bang: ME:Ok we've already been through this a few times about the plates, I needed the plates to drive across the country, during that drive the car was insured. My insurance company needed me to get a WA state policy and change my info since I now lived in WA. My wife's job needed her to get a WA license and have WA plates on her car within a week of her starting here so we had to switch it over then we couldn't just mail you tags back keep it insured in NC and not be able to drive the car, due to no tags, while we are waiting for you guys to get the tags and let us know that it has been entered. The insurance did not lapse I haven't driven on a NC road since July the 1st and the car was insured in NC still at that point so there should be no problem here.

Ok sir what you can do is mail us a letter from your insurance company showing that the insurance was stopped and started on the same day and also a copy of your new registration with the date the car was registered in Washington.

ME:Ok now that I can do if that will take care of it.

Oh yes sir as long as it shows that you registered the car before you stopped the NC insurance and started the new policy the same day it will be fine.

ME:Well I switched the insurance over on a Saturday and went to the DMV when it was open on the following monday. We didn't drive the car during that weekend, we drove my other car that is already registered and insured in WA.

Well sir you will still have to pay a penalty then since the car was not under a NC policy for those two days.

ME:This is ridiculous the car was not in NC, was still insured and was sitting on private property for that time, why is this so hard to understand that the car has always been covered under insurance?

Well sir all of this could have been avoided if you had turned the plates in before you left the state.....


That's about when I lost my Sheet so I won't type what I said after that.

I didn't have this problem when I moved to NC with the CA DMV so I checked with people in my office (between us we've lived in about 24 states)

No one had ever experienced a problem like this before. You move, you change insurance and re-register the vehicle.. done and done. Except if you move out of NC apparently. In the end I told her i'll deliver the penalty and the plates in person.... when I move back to NC

But really looks like i'm paying a BS penalty now for no reason at all.
 
I'd send the plates, but no way I'd pay it.

Yup .... NC ..... Never never drop a policy until you turn in the plate.

As for not paying .... Everything is cool unless you try to come back to NC.

Send the plates, but don't pay. We received the same letter and dealt with the same idiot. I sent the plates and they have left me alone. Now Let's hope you don't have to deal with Mecklenburg County Tax office trying to collect property tax on a property you sold 1, 2, and 3 years earlier. Yes, they kept sending me letters and I kept calling them back to tell them to check their records of a sale. Evidently several NC county offices sharing of paperwork is sketchy.
 
I still get tax notices from Key West, 11 years later......................

Same here, hell I still have 3-4 NC plates in my garage that I never turned in and have never had any issues. Typical DMV logic.
 
Is that a real farm tag or ornamental?
 
Like Izzy and James, I have kept my plates as well...especially the vanity plates. There is a simple form to fill out that shows the plates as either lost or stolen. I can vouch for it being an effective way to avoid a trip to the dmv. NC must have really cracked down on this tag return thing in the last 5 years or so. It used to be that you just tossed your old plate in a big bin at the DMV and they would ask you if you needed a receipt. My default answer was always, "No." Nowadays you have to stand in a line just as long as the line to get your tag. Only difference is that the "turn-in" line moves a little quicker. Thanks Govco!
 
Are these brackets a readily available product? I need something like this, the manager at Lowes said a former manager got them years ago and she didn't know who made them.
