I’m running a 5.5cm Holset he221w and some other adapters and housings from them. The He221w is great on my 13bt
Same here, but 3B(-T).

I've seen several OM606 versions where the compressed turbo airflow goes through the intake manifold on top of the valve cover and the other does not.

Anyone know the differences in these versions of the engine and which one goes on top? I do know the 91's aren't turbo.

606.910
606.912
606.961
606.962
606.964

I believe the ones with the intake that goes over the top are all NA and will have the weaker rods. The turbo versions have a front mounted intercooler which brings the intake to the drivers side and then over to the manifold, so no crossover needed.

Well, that was simple. thx.
So it seems like many people put on a turbo without an intercooler nor changing the rods.

606.910 (w124)
606.912 (w210) are non-turbo, the others are turbo.

there are alot of differences not just the rods.

I don't think I've seen any om606 project that didn't use an inter cooler but I'm sure there is one out there somewhere i wouldn't recommend it unless you were going to run even less turbo then stock.

Here's the engine in question... no intercooler... seems like a 606.91x version

First post in a few years but hawk tuah here we go. Currently in Germany coming back to USA/East coast sometime next spring. Got an FJ60 stashed with 4bt/nv4500/ecobox/Np205 split. Surprise surprise been building OM606 for a hot minute and got another spare parts one in the ole garage to replace the brain shaking 4bt. Before it disappeared i purchased a bendstead adapter from SPEEDGEMS and stashed it like an old squirrel(i believe it is gone but worth asking them if they still have some kits). The 606TD i got will be with stock new internals except the upgraded springs. doing a cyl 1 to water pump bypass, 603 mech pump with dieselmekken 7.5mm internals/ALDA, and HX40 Super Snail.

Sounds like it should be a cool project. Let us know if you start a build thread!

I did a 606 swap into an 80 series, anothernord followed in suit, we have another on here I'm talking with doing one. I have a dpuk r150f adapter set, new unused with bellhousing and other parts if anyone is interested. Also an old 603 mechanical pump...unmolested, still has the ALDA cap.

Fjdiesel and I are both going with 722.6 NAG1 autos. TDs apparently have a tendency to be a bit jerky with manuals, and the 606 is no different. An auto also fits our needs better. My plan is currently Merc 722.6 Bell housing, jeep 722.6 NAG-1, axis adapter, split case or hf2a. There are standalone controllers for the 722.6, but DPUK is working on a manual valve body for it as well (probably at least a year out from production from the looks of things and asking). For fitment and fan placement, it should benefit from being mounted offset like a stock 2F in a 40. Hoping to collect some parts this winter and get the drive line bolted together and mounted.

I have read your build thread. How has the performance been with some of the changes?

Sure would have been nice if all these things were around when I did my swap. Ad far as performance, I don't have a baseline to compare to.

It drives as well as it did with the 1fz. I honestly hardly get out of 4th gear. You hit 70 and it drives fine in 4th, you'd have to be going faster than I drive to really utilize 5th. I suppose regearing would make sense but if I don't sell it soon, I will be putting factory radius arms and smaller tires on it anyway.

The smaller intercooler with the de-rated injection pump and the He221 billet turbo all seems to jive better than the previous iterations. I noticed response and power ended up slightly noticeably better with the smaller intercooler. It reads higher boost numbers for sure. Before, it would peak about 12-14 psi. It sees better than that when I drive it. Which, admittedly I rarely do anymore. Poor thing has been relegated to a project.

hey guys
I had a 2014 LC Prado 150
bought an om605 with 722.6 transmission
will the transfer case of Prado work without problems ?

Prado 150 I believe is same platform as our 4Runner, in which case they use a left hand side drop chain drive transfer case with centered rear output. Depending on what the 722.6 came out of there could be an adapter out there for some other left side drop case.

the Toyota transfer-case will not bolt up to the Mercedes 2wd transmission if that's what your asking. You can make an adapter, run a divorced transfer case, you can get a jeep transmission, swap the front section of the trans so that it fits the om605 and then run a jeep transfer case. you could also use the 163 chassis transmission and transfercase combo, it's LH drop with low range but it's push button. Or my favorite option is to order a atlas transfercase that will bolt up to the jeep transmission but has Toyota driveshaft flanges.

Been researching this swap for a while. Hoping to start gathering parts soon but wanted to pick some brains. Obviously the om606 is larger and is capable of more power but would a tuned up om605 make good power in a 60 series? The engine bay would obviously be a little less crowded and would give more space for intercooler and turbo options.

A 605 can still make good power, you're just 1 cylinder short. The extra space would be nice, but the 606 is already a bit shorter than the 2F by about 3 inches I believe. Front mount intercooler will probably still be tight. I haven't looked into it, but don't believe they came in anything sold here in the US.

No on605 was sold in the US. But plenty of room in the 60 with the om606 installed.
But if you’re looking for something a bit shorter take a look at the om647 engines out of a 05-06 sprinter.
It would take a bit more than the om605 or 606 to make it run, but it’s not that bad.
