Today whilst at the Toyota Dealer ordering these, I asked which country 15600-41010 is made in and how many are in a case. His initial response was Japan and went out back and got one to show, when he got onto the computer he also said that the same Oil Filter also made in Australia.
A case contains 10
Australian 15600-41010 equates to AU$8.00 each
Japanese 15600-41010 equates to AU$15.00 each

The thing that brought this on, is back on Easter saturday I went to Super Cheap Auto for their 20% off sale and I wanted to findout where the Oil Filters are made so I can make an informed decission. The Ryco, which is a name brand in Australia, was something like $7.00 and made in China, then I looked at the generic Filter that was nearly half the price of the Ryco, but it too was made in China. Then I got home and checked out the Valvoline Filters I have, and damn, they're made in China. - I hadn't noticed before.

Next step is to have my brother go to the Ford dealer and findout where the Ford C1AZ-6731-AP, Motorcraft FL 1A and Motorcraft FL 181 are made and their prices. I'm also coercing my brother to go to the General Motors dealer about AC Delco PF2. - It's fortunate that his 1996 Ford Falcon uses the same Filter as my Hilux. :)

What filters are you chaps using?

Jonathan, I'm not sure how much of a discussion you will find on oil filters in this forum but if you go over to the 80 section you will find more than you want to read. Look in the FAQ first and if that doesn't get you enough then search "best oil filter". There are all kinds of studies, opinions, facts and maybe even some fiction in there, all for your reading pleasure.

I use Wix as well. Frankly, if you change your oil/filter often enough, the filter is not going to break down that much any way. Getting into the micronomy of an oil filter on an engine that is proven to withstand much more abuse than a little dirt in the oil is a bit crazy to me.

BUT, I also understand the obsession of autos and keeping them in the best shape ( :

I cant begin to count the number of people I know that do NOT take care of their Toyotas and the engines keep on going-strong.

Toyota 90915-20004, made in Japan. Not easily available in the USA. I don't even know the book filter any more as Toyota keeps changing it. All I know is most of the USA filters now come from Taiwan.

By 'Taiwan' of course you meant Thailand, right?
I use either the Toyota dealer's Denso filters (formerly made under contract in USA by Purolator, now and for the last few years made by Denso in Thailand) or the USA made Mobil 1 or K&N units. You might double check that the Australian market Toyota dealer filters aren't also made in Thailand...it'd make sense geographically.

I have been going through oil filters like crazy on this runner , so far Fram carries the best..............I know they are normally junk. I have a puralater on it now........also a drop in pressure. Mobil one brought the suck. Maybe I will try Wix. Its only a oil pressure at idle not at higher psi.

The last couple of cases of filters I bought were 90915-YZZD1 (FO-8). They are made in Thailand, I like them because they fit all 3 of my vehicles, and they come with the gasket pre-lubed. I used my last one the other day, so when I was in the dealer on Tuesday ordering that idler pulley bearing, I thought I'd pick up a few filters. Well, this one has been replaced with 90915-YZZG1, which is made in USA. I don't like it as much, it doesn't feel as sturdy and the gasket isn't pre-lubed.

Maybe I'll try to find some of those -20004 that Pappy posted.

Changed again? Geez. CruiserDan stocks the -20004. They are not cheap.

I'm actually running one of the expensive Amsoil filters right now with Mobil 1 in the engine. I only change the oil every 2 years which amounts to about 2000 miles so cost hasn't been a concern. I'm sure it's a great filter but I wouldn't go out of my way to buy them. I was ordering some Amsoil grease and threw a couple of filters on the order for the 4Runner and the 80 just to try them.

I just use fram. Easier to get just in time. Just change your oil and filter often and you'll be fine.

Dude... Fram are junk... have you ever seen cut aways of all the name brand oil filters carried in the US? the frams are retardedly poor at what they are supposed to do.

I always just use the Napa brand, when my gf bought her 93 the PO had it stocked with like 20 OEM Toyota oil filters, so I used those for a while, but F- it i just run the Napa ones seem to work alright

I hope ya'all don't think you are saving money using Fram or what ever filter. Just a quick check ...

NAPA Gold: $6.49
Bosch @ Autozone: $6.49
Fram @ Autozone: $4.19
Fram Tough Guard @ Autozone: $6.99
Mobil 1 @ Autozone: $12.99

Toyota filter 90915-YZZG1: $5.41 list, $4.06 from CruiserDan and other discount dealers.

Heck, what do I care? It's your money and your engine.

Here it is
Also to add to that link, in my research, Baldwin and Purolator are part of the same corporation. Clarcor
Champion Laboratories is also known as Luber-Finer. I just came across this PDF.

Does Donaldson still sell and manufacture their own Oil Filters?
Does Cummins Fleetguard make their own, if not who does?

I have cut Frams open, and after seeing them inside, I'm convinced they are about as good as no filter at all.

Pappy, I was in Autozone the other day getting oil and stuff for my daughter's Corolla, and I had the same experience. The only filter they had on the shelf that was cheaper than the Toyota OEM was the STP. I went and looked at it, it felt flimsy to me, and the anti-drainback baffle was poorly made. No thanks.

I think the oil filter debate is quite amuzing. Not that I disagree BUT what I do know is that there are many many many more people out there that drive Toyotas that do not care what filter is put in their car and those engines last a LONG time.

Also, and even to more of a point, I live/interact with many farmers. Their vehicles are actual utility pieces i.e. idling all the time, pulling, etc. I have never, not even once, heard a mention of what type of filter do you use. Fact is they dont care and fact is that that they have many many trucks that exceed the 200k mark without a rebuild.

So, although I can appreciate what a Fram looks like cut open versus an X, I am not sure that really means anything in the real world. The REAL fact is that I have never seen a scientific study done on engine longevity, over 20 years, that consider the effects of different filters.

My opinion holds true for synthetic oil as well. I dont care what the stats say. Fact is that I know many many vehicles that operate on mineral oil and have lasted a long time. The only thing synthetic oil allows you to do is go longer between changes. If you are changing your synthetic oil every 5k, then you have been had by marketing.

If I was on my M3 page, then I would expect a debate of this magnitude ( :

I know we are all crazy though LOL!

Just my .02.

I have alway preached Fram is junk.......but the old lady brought home one day. :meh:
I would just like to fawking know why some run lower or higher oil pressure. ...I suppose its the size of the holes inside. My next one will be wix or Nap....both I know are fine.
