Speaking of tires...

As most of you know I'm trying to get the 1966 FJ45 LV into roadworthy condition to bring it to the meet and greet in March. Well, it needs tires, badly. Before I steal the 33x9.50x15 tires off my FJ40, I thought I should check to see if anyone has what I need and is looking to upgrade or perhaps @Rice will find what I need on CL for me. ;)

Thanks for the post Al. I'd actually like to find five 33x10.50x15, or something close to it.

Thanks Jason. I'm planning to stick with 15s as I want to run the old school acorn hubcaps like these (combo birthday and Christmas present if the seller ever gets back to the states).View attachment 1026781

Update: After this weekend at Brad's and seeing everyone's rigs, and after searching mud and looking at other LVs, I decided to step up and get some 33x10.50x15 BFG KM2s for my LV. I reached out to one of the owners at Griffin Brothers (a club sponsor at one point) and got quoted what I think is a fair price. I also decided to order factory steelies from Scott Clark Toyota (a club sponsor) and plan to paint them something close to factory gray. Thanks to those that pointed me to some A/T options in that size on Craigslist. I really like the look of the KM2s and decided to splurge and get new ones rather than take a risk with anything off Craigslist or trying to save money and not having the look I ultimately wanted.

Good choice. I am jealous as it will likely be a while before the 73 gets decent tires

Check to see which sizes BFG is discontinuing. I swear I read the 33x10.5x15 is on the list.

Why the new wheels?

You may be right. When I checked the 4 Wheel Parts website, they didn't have the M/T available in that size. I called the 800 # and the sales rep said he thought they might have been discontinued. When I emailed my contact at Griffin Brothers on the matter he replied "They could be discontinuing that size because of lack of movement." :meh:

The wheels currently on the LV don't have clips for hubcaps and I really dig the look of the old school hubcaps. One of the five wheels I purchased from Kevin with the 33x9.50x15 BFG A/T for the 40 was unusable (blunt force trauma from impact with a tree at 30+ mph) and at least one if not two wheels have been beat back into round (or close to it). Four of the wheels I pulled off the 40 are in my crawlspace and I decided they should stay with the 40 if/when I ever part with it.

Ughhh I hope they do not discontinue that size. My plans for the 73 included OE alloy wheels and those tires. By the time I am ready, they will likely be unobtanium :(

ON EDIT: they are probably discontinued. TireRack no longer shows them on their site.

I bet 33x10.50r16, or whatever the metric equivalent is (285/75r16?), will still be available.

In my case, it kills the wheel selection and the 16 is heavier. It will likely push me to keep the size I have or move to 255s

In a metric I have to agree. 33x10.5x16 brings up nothing on tirerack.

Wow ... it was only 6 or so months ago when I put new tires on the 40 and the 33x10.50x15 KM2's were in stock even though I went with T/A's. They appear to no longer have them.

David, I have to believe if you searched you could find a set of leftover 33x10.5x15's. The bonus is they would last forever but better get 5 since finding a spare will get harder.

Amazon .... In stock: http://www.amazon.com/BFGoodrich-Mud-Terrain-Off-Road-Tire/dp/B004QGZC9I

Thankfully, Griffin Brothers had some in their warehouse and I am getting five. Based on a picture I saw here on mud, it will (just barely) fit in the spare tire location in the back of the LV.

I guess they are phasing it out i just got my spare from tire crazy free shipping no tax. Dont want to take the risk to dont have matching spare.

Saw that. Seems dodgy. VA area code on the phone number

Add does not state what is wrong with it.

I happen to know that the Toyo Open Country MT is offered in 33x10.5/15. It's a great tire >\= the KM2. Different look though.
