As I was walking the isles of Harbor Freight last night, I thought of how many tools I own from there. Most that I would have never bought, had it not been for IH8MUD connection. I admit that I was a skeptic to their quality; however, their price point typically makes it where I can buy 4 of their tool to one of the better brands.

So with that said, I thought I would start a thread that we can all post our best things you can get at Harbor to work on your rig -- the more specific to a task on the 80 the better.

My favorite has to be the 1/2 earthquake impact wrench. $69.99 on sale and it zips off the crankshaft bolt on at least a half dozen 80 series rigs. Makes a very difficult job easy as pie.

Unless you are actually buying said 4 of everything and taking them with you, it doesn't do you much good on the trail. I admit to buying a few HF tools out of sheer necessity of time. And have indeed needed to throw some away or warranty. But thats fine for garage work. Being on the trail with that stuff? Hell no. Ok, Brass drifts, sure :meh:

I was assuming he meant just to work on your rig in general not specifically on the trail.

Didn't get the impression this thread was for trail tools, just more common tools while wrenching in your garage type thing. Can't really think of reason to have a 20ton press on the trail. ------> :flipoff2: :P

I use their 1/2 torque wrench to tighten my lug nuts. $9.99 on sale. i made sure it was somewhat calibrated by comparing it to a craftsman usa beam wrench. It's a pos but has a lifetime warranty which I've already had to use once in the two years I've had it.

Their really long (25"?) non-ratcheting breaker bar is a good buy even w/o coupon.
X2. Used mine for years before I finally broke it. Stood on the end trying to break loose the main hub nut on my XJ. took it in the harbor Freight showing that it cracked and they replaced it with no questions asked.

I've used their little heat gun which goes for around $8.99. useful on heat shrink for wiring.

HF Impact Sockets are cheap and great. Their polished wrenches are dirt cheap and good enough to leave a whole set in truck. I just picked up the 3/4 Breaker bar and socket set to do the Crankshaft Bolt. Going to rope the bar to frame, say a prayer, and touch the starter. Should be exciting.

Yup. Let's see, I've bought randomly over the years from HF
Breaker bar
Impact sockets
Some adjustable neck rachects
heat gun
pneumatic hose and wall mount
torque wrench

Not so much of a tool as an accessory, but the magnetic trays are awesome. I'll put them on the frame rail when I'm under the truck and put bolts where they don't get lost. Often times you can just leave them there until the job is done.

I have enough that I can even do an axle job, and each bolt can have its own tray. Just stick 'em to the fender!

Ah good ol Horror Fright. Total hit or miss. Surprisingly my electric impact gun is still going after 3 years. Angle grinders however, both went out with a cloud of smoke. Never again. Grinders will only be Dewalt or the like. Jack stands are great, as are their tool boxes. I have their pedestal for my bench grinder, welding cart, welding table, breaker bar, impact sockets, etc

On the trail you will find on my rig...

12k winch. Top rated, and if I recall on Woody's rig. never let anyone in our club down, (waterproofing is recommended) $330 delivered to my house.

Tree strap.. works great. pulled my 80 (and several others) up a muddy trail in Texas in the middle of the night. $12. DONE

I added air over jack to my HF press (that is about 20 years old) and still is great!

Best improvement ever. (thanks to @kc_chevota for the inspiration)

Installation is get a couple scraps of 2x4 and hold the press part down to get the old jack out and replace. Now you have a spare bottle jack.

Universal push button air hose coupling

Got a bunch of these on sale at HF a while back and it's probably the best coupler I've ever used :)

It's universal, so it fits all fittings (high and low flow) without leaks

They were $1.99 during the sale, but I can't seem to find them on the HF website now :hmm:

Cool, have to watch for these.

One of the few trails I bypassed that night...sigh...

I've gotten some great use out of their 6 amp Chicago electric sawzall that I got for $19.99 at one of their sidewalk sales. X2 on jack stands and ratchet straps.
