I am needing to replace my brake booster and want to know if the aftermarket units are worth anything or if I should go with one from Toyota

oh please do an oem or aisin part, you are asking for trouble with a cheap aftermarket unit. For hard parts like this I always use toyota or aisin. Many times you can find aftermarket parts that are actually aisin and are stamped with aisin on them. These are the ones you want as they are OEM quality but usually less expensive.

as an example: many years ago I purchased an aftermarket rebuilt brake master for my fj40, installed it and the brakes would lock up all of the sudden and not let go, ended up in some scary situations. Turned out the aftermarket unit was junk right out of the box, lesson learned the hard way. Ended up having to rebuild the whole front end as the brakes locking up fried everything just to get home.

NAPA's part is new. All the others are rebuilds so far as I'm aware.

What does an OEM booster look like?

I've seen several pics online of Toyota brake boosters for the FZJ80 and they appear to be same one as the one I am replacing, having the metal stamped:

"BENDIX LICENCE"
"MASTER VAC"

I'm replacing my booster now, and it has the same "BENDIX LICENCE" stamp:

I just picked up a remanufactured booster from NAPA, and it appears to be the same booster, with the exception that it is not painted black, it does not have the red/silver sticker on top, and it has "JKC" stamped on it . Is this a rebuilt OEM unit?

Interesting that Aisin is listed as the OEM. When I ordered my replacement from CDan, it was made by Bosch.

I just picked up a NAPA reman booster. It looks like garbage. Almost like it was intended for something else so they welded the check valve hole shut and drilled a new one. It'a not stamped the way the OEM one was. Is this an aftermarket reman or did the 80 ever come with a boosterlike this?

Is it possible to buy a rebuild kit for one? Hard to believe it's more than just seals going bad.

I got my new Toyota booster in. They're made by Bosch now apparently. I tried to find this as an aftermarket part direct from Bosch but couldn't.
