I went with a VatoZone reman because it was half the price of the OEM and had a lifetime warranty :meh:

After about a year, it failed, but got a replacement no questions asked.

The current one has been in since February and seems to be working perfectly.

Looks like I broke my brakes (help)

So you're due for another failure next February? Why go cheap on such a critical
Part? Curious.

I know this is kind of resurrecting an old thread, but I figured it was worth noting. I just bought the brand new OEM Seiken brake booster from Cruiser Yard (AWESOME!). And it's a Bosch unit. Which makes sense, seeing how Bosch is now the current OEM provider for Toyota. Just thought I'd chime in about it. I thought it'd say "Seiken" or something like that on it...hehe

I was just going to ask about this. I found that CruiserYard link which is listed as Seiken and OEM but am confused with the Bosch info in this thread. Also, the brake booster in my '97 is rusted silver, not painted black? Don't know if the original owner ever replaced it, or does anyone know, were some painted and some not?

I just installed one from Cruiser Yard over Christmas, it was a Seiken. If yours isn't painted I'd bet it's been replaced.

From my understanding, it’s a licensing issue, Bosch has the rights to sell here, so they put a sticker on the Japanese unit.

Yours is not original, all OEM are black like the picture.

Just wanted to update this. A customer asked me a couple questions this past Friday which I wanted to share, and subsequently updated the website description.

1- What would I put in MY truck(s)?
2- Is there a difference between the Seiken and the OEM unit?

Answers below:
1- I have and will put in the Seiken.
2- I have had a few OEM units with TOYOTA Labeling on the box I have sold for $469 New OEM Toyota Land Cruiser Brake Booster with OEM Gasket, 44610-60792 | eBay When I had them, I was able to compare them side by side and the boosters are exactly the same. The only difference is that you would pay $170 more from me or $350 more from your dealer, for the cardboard box that has TOYOTA on it, which is fine if you want to frame it :) But that is a lot of coin for a box. And of course you'd need to get the gasket which is included in the Seiken units I sell.

In short and as previously stated, there is no difference between the two other than the box it comes in.

Do you have a link handy to the Seiken units you also sell that comes with the oem gasket? Many thanks.

I did mine last year and Napa and most others were actually a Cardone unit so I just went to Amazon for the cost savings. No complains except it did not come painted with the needed gasket. :meh:

I didn't realize my Cardone unit was raw steel and installed it and it began to rust. I pulled it off again about a year later to get to the rear AC line and I stripped the rust off and and painted it then. For the money, it seems to work just fine other than that detail.

I kept my Toyota unit and I am thinking I may try one of those rebuilding outfits if the Cardone one ever konks out.

You can buy a new oem one here for 417 plus shipping. I'd recommend to order a bunch of stuff at once to get the best shipping price

Buy OEM

JKC or Jidosha Kiki Co has been a Japanese subsidiary of Bosch since before WWII. JKC recently rejoined the Bosch Group and renamed themselves Bosch Automotive Systems Japan. Seiken buys their parts as an aftermarket distributor directly from Bosch Japan or Aisin Brake Co(now called Advics) both of which exclusively supply all of Toyota's brake components. Seiken and Toyota OEM parts are exactly the same.

oh please do an oem or aisin part, you are asking for trouble with a cheap aftermarket unit. For hard parts like this I always use toyota or aisin. Many times you can find aftermarket parts that are actually aisin and are stamped with aisin on them. These are the ones you want as they are OEM quality but usually less expensive.

What he said...............I just did mine last weekend and went with OEM. It was an easy job but don't want to do it again anytime soon.

1 post dropping some great knowledge. Well done.

Just installed Cruiseryards Seiken/OEM brake booster. It just didn’t say Toyota on the box.

Also did his Advics master cylinder at the same time.

Brakes feel MUCH better.

And reckon I’m good for another 10-20 years or 190k miles, whichever comes first.

P. S. Crazy quick shipping plus willingness to answer stupid questions is a bonus, btw!

Did the same thing last week. Brake pedal rebounds back with more immediacy with less friction. Smoother operation for sure.

Gasket looks like a piece of cardboard. Good thing I didn’t throw it away.
