Ha, good updates. That place looks great Marshall, as do many others on that website. I was involuntarily nominated to organize this trip so I am glad to see progress being made in my absence. :D

I actually spent a good bit of the morning firming up my plans for my OBX trip in a few weeks. I can do some recon then if desired. Can't wait!!! :bounce: :bounce2:

The big drawback to staying north of the highway 12 terminus is coordinating a large group of beach goers when everyone doesn't have 4 wheel drive. With UC, that isn't a problem!!! :D

The only other issue for me is that the fishing isn't great up that way. I'd be willing to drive to get to my recreation spots though.

That being said, I am a BIG fan of David's idea of MLK weekend. Rental choices will be limitless and he's right about the crowds. You will be able to find a house up there that will heat the pool in exchange for guaranteed occupancy, no problem.

If Tellico is the preferred MLK trip, I understand. David's suggestion for OBX that weekend (January 19-21, 2008) deserves consideration as a strong 2nd choice if Tellico closures occur as feared IMO.

Plus, January not only means good fishing, but EXCELLENT duck hunting!!!! :D

Andy, who's your friend, who's your buddy . . . .

ME! I have my NC Lifetime Hunt/Fish and would be more than glad to help you thin the duck population this winter. (Do you have a flat bottomed boat? A trained dog?) If so, the beer is on me that weekend.

Oh, this trip just gets better and better!:bounce:

Sounds good David. The more, the merrier!!

Whether this UC trip is in January or not, I am planning on getting down that way for some duck hunting.

No boat or dog (that would help anyway). Just a good guide who knows where the ducks and geese are at any given time!!

Got a new 15' aluminim boat that is good for 2 people and a dog if that helps. I obviously don't know where to go having never been there, but would be glad to bring it up for a weekend wheeling/hunting trip.

Sounds like you know the hot spots in the low country though. How is it down there??

What he needs to be focusing on right now with that boat is shrimp. Lots of it.

All true, but right now I am focusing on spending time with my 5 month old son, as I will be moving to Charleston soon and will be away from him and the wife during the week for the next 7 months. You can bet your ass that I will be taking that boat with me during this time. What else am I going to do with my time. I will probably be doing alot of night stuff during the week down there.

My dad fishes in the redfish tournaments, and he knows all the hotspots in Charleston. I will be up to par by next spring. I haven't fished or hunted in the Myrtle Beach area for 6 years. I have a few old ricefield spots in Yauhanna, but there are not a lot of ducks in there anymore. Duck hunting has gotten so popular over the years that there just not settling in down here anymore. The thing to do for ducks is to go up to Canada one time a year and get it out of your system. You will litterally shoot hundreds, and be sick of shooting them.

That shrimp expedition sounds like fun in the other thread. Hope to be apart of all these lowcountry festivities. It's nice to see that you guys appreciate our neck of the woods as much as we appreciate yours.

I am so in. I'll be looking for a firm date.

Same here. I've been wanting a beach run ever since I got Bonnie.
Before this year all my 4wd time was on sand.
Plus I just love the beach anyway.

Not sure yet. My office is in North Charleston, and I will probably stay in a company rental for 6-9 months. I have been looking at some older houses in Wando Woods, as it is like 1 mile from the office and has a small boat landing. I am hoping some of these prices will drop about $20,000 by the time I buy something next year. As far as when, should be in about 4 weeks.

So what are you going to do with all of that LC stuff in your back yard?

If you want to leave all your tools in my basement (I have a LOT of room) and don't mind hauling them I will keep an eye on them and then deny any of it is yours when you want it back :)

who willl you be working for? you are going to be close to duncan's boat landing as well. one of my best friends is a realtor so please let me know if you need any help finding a house.

OK, getting this one back on track. This thread kind of morphed into another thread about a Charleston / Low Country Boil trip so...

Any more thoughts about dates for 2008??

Andy I'm going reccomend a couple.

April Before GSMTR, rates are better, water will be cold, not summer, good camping.

Mid June After GSMTR Rates are high, water is nice, camping will be likely a little warm but not terrible

First part of Sept. Water good, After OTMT, Before annual, Camping about same as June. Rates will be slightly better.

A couple questions. Do we want to get a house? Do we want this to be for a week or a long weekend? (thur-sun) Do we want the upper part 4x4 access and camping or the Hatteras area. It is possible to a little of both with long enough planning.

What does everyone think? What would you like to see?
