Hmmm... without peaking at your updates, it looks like we are going same direction: turbo 5.3.

As others noted, stock truck accessories fit between rails perfectly. With that said, I'm going with Goat brackets for alt and PS on both my Lax 55s.

Since I have an Lsx 55, I can tell a turbo is VERY tight fit. I'm not 100% sure where it will fit. Currently thinking high on pass side. But until I have turbo in hand, I have a lot of doubt.

FWIW, Corvette C6 exhaust manifold will not work without significant adjustment. I forced them to work on the 6.0.

Thanks for some insight, When i first decided to go this route i popped the hood and starred at the carb'd 350 trying to imagine where everything will go. Some of it obviously has to to do with what size turbo i decide on going with, and what all gets crammed in my engine bay (planning on a dual battery setup on the passenger firewall side) Other than the batteries everything else is subject to fitment with the engine/turbo setup.

One nice thing is i'll be going power steering (a must i would say) So that will gain me some clearance on the driver side rail. (Believe the p/s box's are a touch smaller?)

On a curious note, what turbo and power level are you currently looking at? Im looking at either going with a GTX3582r, or the EFR9174. Wanting peak HP to be around 750-800hp so i can run lower boost and stay around 500whp. Leaning towards the EFR turbo because of the internal wastegate, figured it would save a little space, plus spool response looks fantastic.

All comes down to i need to start cranking on the pig. Been sitting for too long without being tinkered with.

I am very inexperienced with forced induction, and with LS swaps, but I have seen some turbo'd full size pick-ups that put the turbo underneath, back by the tranny.

Hmm...

Seems like a lot of extra tubing, heat issues, possible extra lag time, but I am sure those that are doing it have their reasons!

Just something you might check out...

Had a buddy that had a rear mount turbo in his camaro, thing screamed. Never could get over all the extra plumbing though. With some time and materials mounting a turbo in the pigs Bay shouldn't be too difficult. All comes down to execution, and smart planning.

Thanks for the look out though. I have some ideas I can't wait to try once I get to that point.

if this guy can do 4 turbos in an RX2, you can do 1 in a pig.

rx2.webp

I am going to be hauling my turbo down to the 6.0L pig and snap some pictures.

The turbo I got was a bit smaller than I expected. What I found interesting is the "exhaust" side of it was much smaller than the "intake" side... over 1" in diameter difference. In my case, I may be able to clear my dual batter tray with the exhaust half but not the intake half ;)

I'm praying it will sit high on the passenger side. Something that could be "shown off". I'd rather not bury it under the radiator area.

Just remember, where ever you put the turbo, I recommend the piping (and turbo personally) get heat coated, run an exhaust blanket and a small heat shield between important stuff.

Little part and tool update. Guy at work needed some 37's for his Lifted Jeep Wrangler and was in a tight spot so i sold him the 37's off my landcruiser for a decent deal. Was not super happy with how they handled in the snow and had been thinking about getting rid of them. The opportunity arose and i took it. Sold my four KM2's and ordered 5 Bfgoodrich All-Terrain KO/2's to replace them with. These tires should fit my expedition/road trip end result better.

Also just ordered a Lotos LT5000D plasma cutter. Its a cheaper plasma cutter, but by all the reviews i've read its great for getting started. Should make nice quick work on the body work instead of using an angle grinder to cut everything.

Next month im purchasing a Ingersoll-Rand two stage 80gal air compressor.

Then the work starts. Mwahahahahaha...

Just settled on the T/A KO2s myself......not for the pig but for my Tundra ;)
Supposed to be a top notch tire!

That's a nice compressor! 2 stage and 80 gal. perfect. Single stage just won't cut it when needing volume. I have a 60 gal. tank and would like to have the 80.

npulver, out of curiosity, why the swap?

I have a set of km2s on my green piggy and aside from a tire eating alignment, they did pretty well on the road. I ran a set on my old Tacoma and they did well offroad.

My green piggy is due for a new set of shoes that I've been putting off.

On the compressor, why that choice? It is one that is on my list.

As far as the tires go, I have them currently on my 2010 Tacoma as well as the pig. The tires ROCK on anything other than snowy/icy roads. Unfortunately for around here we have snowy/icy roads 4 months out of the year. Which sucks to slip and slide around as often as i do with them. I did however get the center section of the tires siped on my tacoma and it made a HUGE improvement on the snow packed roads (about the same as a normal tire now. lol) The KO/2s do substantially better in that type of condition, but not as well in the mudding/rock crawling. So it was a trade off for what i plan on seeing more of.

As far as compressors go the one im specifically looking at is that Ingersoll rand TS4N. Tractor supply currently has them for $1099 + tax in store (which is much cheaper than anything i've seen online shipped for that compressor) Tractor supply is only a mile from my house so that helps. I've looked at a bunch of reviews on other compressor brands and this one seems to always be ranked well. The obvious perks are its a 80gal tank, and two stage. Puts out 15cfm at 90psi which is enough to run everything i have in my garage. Something i've also noticed is a lot of engines in this price range are only rated at around 5-10,000 hours, this is rated at 15,000 hour. This one also carries a 2 year warranty which is nice.

Also, from what i read this compressor is pretty quiet, belt driven is the way to go engine wise.

So my basic pros : Cheap for what it is, quiet, long engine life, good reviews, decent warranty, no need for shipping.

Not sure when they are going to run another sale on it, but about a month or two ago they had a sale on it. Had it for sale for $950. Hoping it pops on sale again within the month lol

Thanks for the detailed posts regarding your rust repairs, definitely provides some food for thought for anyone contemplating similar work... have you had any more progress on the engine swap?

Unfortunately no progress on the pig at all minus mounting the new tires. I have been focused on squaring some projects away on my house. One of the projects being insulating and drywalling the garage so i can get my new garage heater up and running. I also picked up an entry level plasma cutter so i can make the project go a lot easier. Its one of those unfortunate things where you only have some much money and time. lol

Hopefully the majority of the projects will be done by middle of summer, and i can get cranking on it before it gets cold again.

Also, there is a guy at work temping me to purchase his FJ40....ugh. Which would put me behind a little lol.

Buddy of mine has a plasma table and made it. It's just plain steel (not sure what grade ect) and added a steel stain to make it look copper. Pretty darn neat. Supposed to be hanging in the garage but I've yet to get around to hanging sheet rock yet. So it'll hang in the man cave for now.
