Hello,
I came across this site, when I ran across these guys on the Dusy Ershim Trail in California. They had this website on the side of their kick ass rigs! I got to talk with them on the trail and they pointed me towards this awsome website!

Anyway, I have a 87 Toyota Extra Cab, 22R (recent rebuild), 7 inches of lift, 33 inch tires, 5.29 gears, runs great!

The only thing is that I cant get it to pass smog!:bang:

Anway, great site, and I hope to learn a lot from this site.

Welcome to MUD!

You might also want to check out the Central Valley Crawlers clubhouse corner.

Does your truck have a bunch of stickers on the back window? I think I've seen it around.

:flipoff2: Welcome. :flipoff2:
(I promise this is the welcome sign.)

What were the numbers of your last emissions test?

co% MEAS 3.32 at 15mph
CO% MEAS 3.28 at 25mph

That is where is failing at. Running too rich. Had the carb leaned out and still faling smog.

also HC (PPM)

175 at 15mph max is 143
165 at 25mph max is 115

can anyone help?

i have the truck sold, pending a smog! Then I am buying a new one!

I would check the timing make sure it's on.

The entire engine has been rebuilt by a local company, so I took it back to them and they checked the timing, and it is dead on. Vacume lines maybe??????????????????????

I was told that if I did an Oil Change, then go do a smog test, that my chances of passing are better. Is this correct or just BS? I have to get it smogged today, its my only day off. Any help out there?

Ahh yes, You bumped into Woody, Ron, Tim, Colin, Kevin and I out there. It was great to bump into you, also good to see your on mud!

BTW: where are the picture of it with the super tall camper shell on it?!?

This is all I can seem to upload. I have tried to upload a few different pictures, and even after re-sizing them, I still cant get them to upload. Anyway, still trying to get the truck smogged, going to replace the O2 sensor tomorow, and see if that helps. Maybe after I post somemore, I will be able to get some more pics on here. Great to meet you guys, I am seriously hooked on offroading now more than ever!!!

Looks like a nice mini! Welcome to mud :flipoff2:.

I had those same NWOR nerf bars on my 4Runner. They are quite strong. I just replaced them for weld-on sliders but they did a good job keeping me out of trees for years.

I seem to recall CA carb'd trucks have an oxygen sensor. I would also suspect a failed smog pump.

Nice lookin truck. Bet your wanting to move up to at least a 35" tire next :D

An oil change can have an effect, but not very much. If this was an old, tired engine with excessive blow-by, there could be a buildup of Hydrocarbons in the oil which would be fed back into the combustion chambers via the PCV system. Your recently rebuilt engine should not have this issue, but the other suggestions on O2 sensor & Air Injection are worth looking into.

If you have another day off, bring it by Visalia Quick Smog & Repair on E Main St. That's where I work as a smog technician.

well I went to main street smog and failed aagain, but this time I am very close to passing. I replaced the O2 sensor, and now have to replace the cat! :bang:

I cant wait to move to Minnesota next year, NO MORE F'N SMOG!!!!!!!!!

Carb? Get a smok'n hot coil? Burn all that stuff!

Oh, and :flipoff2:. Hope you got the memo! :D

2MK, all emissions is anyway is unburned fuel? Get a 55k (stock is 45k? iirc) and it might help you out. Even if it's temp to get you by, then you can go back till you find the problem. They can be inexpensive, and easy to install. Just plug and play. I just hope you have the coil, and not the module.

You must have gone yesterday, because I actually ended up working there today. Their smog guy took the day off, so they needed someone to fill in.
