New member... Hello there VI. Bit of an intro....

I didn't want over extention of the bags to be a problem so that issue had to be adressed.

A few guys have hinges on their bag plates etc to help the bag reach the axle under forced articulation.

I came up with this, seems the most simple.

Works great.

With 5lbs in the bags they suck right up and out of the way for wheelin.

15lbs and the ride is smooth and stable.

60lbs and rear lifts up 5"

Whatever the psi the bags can leave the lower mount under droop and then the spring returns upward the bag finds its seat and goes back to doing its job.

I've heard good things about this place too. NCIX.com - Canada's Premier Computer Store - Great Technology, Service and Selection.

I'm going to try them for an hdmi cable soon, somewhat cheaper than the monster cable scam...

NCIX is a great store / online store. They have real physical stores in the lower mainland as well as their online site. GREAT customer service, good prices, and quality stuff. I bought my DVI to HDMI (25") cable there for about $40. For anything expensive or that you need quality, go with NCIX not Dealextreme. Dealextreme is more for the cheap sh!t you don't care about, like a 12V to USB adapter or a replacement iPood cable.

Anyway... we're off topic here!

After driving the 60 around without a rear bumper I decided to 'bump' the bumper project to the top of the list.

Got the bumper from a fellow "mudder" that designed them. It arrived in little pieces and all I had to do was weld it up. Easy Peezy.... except I decided to box it all in and make it into an air tank.

I spent a whole day with the welder in one hand and the soap and H2o in the other chasing little pinholes. For a guy who's supposed to know how to weld I must admit it was a bit embarrassing.

None the less I got them all fixed up and it holds air fine. Until I use it tow a trailer a few times.... then we'll see. I might have to go the SCBA route like Nathaniel.

Here is what I have so far, enjoy

I did an airtank bumper on a 40 I had years ago and same deal... Little holes hissing at me for a while like evil mini cats:hillbilly: Mine didn't have a fancy swing-out or recovery points though! Looks great!

What about sloshing around a couple thick coats of paint inside? Would stop it from rusting too...

Good idea. I did prime the heck out of the inside. I hit the last panel to weld with weldthrough primer. Getting in there with some gorpy paint stuff would be a good idea.

just watch that it's not a really vile smelling paint...

I tried the swish method with a roll bar I made into a tank, and used a bit of resin. The air coming out of the tank reeked so bad I never wanted to use it and went with an air tank underneath.

something two part that you know will kick off hard (without much air around ) would be fine I'm sure..

nice lookin bumper tho!

awesome build man!

altought this way too late but you can get a longer rear driveshaft from a 4 speed bj60, 3" longer and a front by using a early 80's toyota truck short side of drive shaft. 2" longer. might have to change pinion flange or redrill bigger.

Thanks everyone :beer::cheers:

Steve and I mounted the painted bumper yesterday. I sprayed it with an etching primer then after a few hours I hit it with zero rust with dash of "wet look, ppg" hardener.

I grabbed a latch today that Ill get installed tomorrow.

I made little UHMW pads and stopper thingies and found an old gas strut laying around and threw that on as well.

Its nice to have the old 60's ass covered up again.

Here are some pics.

Thanks Stump!

Let me know when you are "up" this way.

Here are some dual shock photos. I felt the whole truck was "under damped". I upgraded the rear to the Bilstein 5125 and because $ doesn't grow on trees I used the old Rancho 5000's from the rear and moved them up front. Then fabed some mounts and used grade 8 bolts to hold it all together.

I had to BFH the fender a bit but the clearances are all better that with the Ford towers.

I might fab a kind of tie-back for the top of the hoop but it can wait for now.

I haven't driven it yet but Ill report the findings.

Clearly I haven't fixed my good camera yet. Sorry.

Take that Land Rover list and cut it by 1/3:D and you'll have good start.

That's cuz just going to the liquor store in a rover can turn into an expedition....
You've got your 1940's 3rd world technology, and it might take a week to get home after you've broken a few axles at stoplights, and had to deal with every expat englishman telling you some boring and likely bull**** story about how he drove one of them in africa when he was younger....

But yes,for an expedition, it's very important you paint your hood black and get a big compass sticker on there,( in fact, you should cover the back windows with stickers too just to be safe) and then a half dozen or so gerry cans on the roofrack, a thousand dollar fridge/beer cooler, a whole whack of digital whizjammers bolted to the dash with detailed maps of places you'll never go.

That's the start of the list, I'll let you figger out which items warrent a kick in the balls...:flipoff2:

Ha ha ha.... It's not very often I find myself laughing out loud at 7:30 in the morning. That's some funny sh!t.

I resemble some of Seapotato's remark... minus the hood, stickers and roof rack. Definitely have the electric whiz-bang crap.

Actually, there is a list that was started in the club forum a ways back, it's a sticky at the top of the club forum.
