My understanding is that there is just one gearbox, but the PTO shafts can got the front and/or rear of the vehicle.

No there is a second style the bolts to the back of the transfer case and the common style that bolts to the side. The split transfer case not only has nineteen splines the transmission tailshaft does not extend past the transfer case housing and not sure the rear was ever made to fit the with a five speed .

In the Toyota exploded views, it is listed as a center PTO, but it does go to the rear.View attachment 1833382

I was thinking that just showing the picture is now concidered a huge HSE violation. At least in my line of work.

Also seen where a old jeep use a rear output to drive a axle on a 1/4 ton trailer. @JohnnyC probably has a picture.

So that is bolted to the side of the tranny, eh? Not the t-case. Now I know why the rectangular plate on the side of my 4-spd.

This on the FJ25 and these were common in the US. There is no plate on the side of the transfer case for a PTO. The PTO that bolted to the side of the H41 and H42 is a unicorn.
