gotta love paint stripper....... but man that stuff burns like fire if you get it on your skin :o

found the original color, which we are going to use too

DSC_0666.jpg

Noticed something odd while stripping the paint.... the first layer was the tan paint job that was on it when we got it. Then below that was the original capri blue and cream white stock color, next was a red primer below that and finally a grey. This was consistant throught the exterior of the vehicle. The suprising bit was several spots of bondo/filler that I found under what I believe was the factory paitn job......... I have read that these body were hand worked by GIFU but has anyone else found any filler under their factory paint jobs? Check out the pic

I am so proud of my family for jumping into the project and catching the cruiser bug. It is almost surreal now to have my pops want to hang out and talk cruises; life is good

Mr. Virgo it's good to see you've created your own cruiser profile....you guys are makin some good progress on the LV....can't wait to see it on the rotisserie!
Thanks..It took me long enough to "join" the cruiser heads:cheers:....JP has been working on me for a long time...All I needed was some $$$ and his expertise...You need to come down and see the progress :p

that body is in decent shape...

I have been pleasantly surprised with the condition of the body, didn't find any real surprised underneath all those years of paint. The floor pan and rockers are going to need some serious attention but luckly those areas are the least visible ones.

Thanks Rob..... it has been a blast getting the whole family involved, and work goes a lot quicker when you have 3 people working instead of just me by myself:grinpimp:

I believe the chain on the gas cap was a factory thing, wasn't it??

Very cool JP

Thanks Dean..... hows your '64 coming?

gas cap

My lv had string on the gas cap and a locking gas door.

JP, Great progress. I am so glad the old girl went to such a good care taker. I better get back to my project or you guys will beat me to the finish. Since we met, I added another project to the mix so my time has become a little more divided. I bought an almost one owner 1973 911S Porsche.

Not sure if you know, but Mark aka "Coolerman" can hook you up with wiring harnesses. I sent him my harness, which was almost perfect, and he made a new copy of it using modern wire.

Also, as for the rear sill, I would recommend you work with the one you have. I bought the one sill that Paul made and because the original pattern truck he had to copy from was not very good, the replacement part was not very accurate. He did the best he could, but in the end it was just too far off. I will fabricate my own sill to match that of the factory.

Good luck and keep up the hard work. If you have any questions do not hesitate to call. Cheers, Mark

Cool score on the Porsche, Mark!! What are you going to do with the body I saw at your shop??

Thanks for the heads up on the wiring harness, I actually just contacted Coolerman the other day about making me a harness and think that is the best way to go as the harness in my LV is rather rough. Also thanks for the heads up on the sill......I can just rework mine.

Keep checking in from time to time; our goal is the have the old girl finished come this fall. That may be rather optimistic but atleast it gives us a goal

Thats funny, now just follow that up with some paint drying action pics

I don't know if Mud is ready for that kind of action yet:flipoff2:

considering how rust-prone these things are, your LV looks like she's in good shape! From the pics, it seem that the rockers, sills, and roof line seem solid.
Great find, man!

Thanks Chuck!! I have been quite pleased with what we have found body wise so far. There is a fair amount of work to be done but this one of the better ones I have seen as far as rust is concerned
