Fantastic ! You got another Great build thread going here. Its cool getting the whole Family involved. I think we have more fun stripping down our 67 because we never knew when we would find. You gotta admit those gas tanks as a bit of a pain. You home cooking pics really got me missing the food back there. I hope you got some video when you first fired up the motor. What a Awsome moment. Have a good one. Rob

JP,

You and your Pops better get your tetanus boosters up to date!!! If you guys put together an East Coast 45 run, Rob will have another road trip to make

Great progress! Good job!

Yeah it has been great working with my Pops as you can't find a better way to spend quality time with the fam. than wrenching on a cruiser!!

and Rob I bet you've really be missing those good ole GRITS!!

No kidding it was very disheartening watch all the rust rain down from the body when I was using the BFH to beat off the front bumper...... if you looks at the pics closely you can see the piles scattered around the outline of the cruiser :o

More Progress to come soon

Nice Wagon, Good luck with this project.
You have a ways to go before you can mount those Cats Eye lenses!!
Cant wait to see it finished
Steve

Got a few hours in on the LV last night.......nothing major. Removed the upper and lower tailgates, the lower proved to be a real PITA thanks to some frozen screws in the hinges. Also started removing the dash components and wiring harness.

Should have the body off this Sunday

Impact hammer wasn't cutting it on removing the tailgate screws :o

I had to resort to welding bolts on the the screws so I could remove the tailgate latches....... not pretty but effective:hillbilly:

Thanks for the lenses!

Mr. Virgo it's good to see you've created your own cruiser profile....you guys are makin some good progress on the LV....can't wait to see it on the rotisserie!

Made some unexpected progress yesterday.... With the sun shinning and temperatures in the 70's pops and I decided to play hooky and took the afternoon off.

We continued where we left off on Thursday night with removing the wiring harness, steering/ column, etc. in preparation for pulling the body off the frame.

The wiring harness has been butchered thru the years.... looks like I am going to be contacting Coolerman to see if he can hook me up with an LV harness

After we removed all the above items and detached all the linkages and hard lines connecting the body to the frame I busted out the impact gun and removed the body mounts. Then it was finally time separate the body and frame!!

However with a lack of lift or bobcat to lift the heavy body off we had to resort to very primitive and ghetto methods to remove the body. I can't say I am particularly proud of our methods but they worked.:hillbilly:

We resorted to using two high lift jacks, some cmu blocks, and 4x4 posts that we had laying around..... flame away:beer:

She is free!!

ghetto....
DSC_0629.jpg

had to add another block to get high enough to clear the wheels.... gotta love the rake

After getting the rear situated we moved to the front end were we experienced our first real "DUH HUH" moment of the project so far. We had the front end jacked up high enough to clear the tires so we could roll out the chassis but for some reason we couldn't get the chassis to roll more than a couple of inches  First thought was that some how the tranny had gotten knocked into to gear, so a quick check revealed it was in neutral. So we then turned to make sure we had disconnected all the lines and wires.... our quick search revealed nothing. Confused we tried again to roll the chassis out with no luck again..... frustrated we decided to take a break to think it over for a minute. It was only when we stepped back from the cruiser far enough to see the whole thing that we realized our problem:o

Take a look at the photo and see if you can spot what we forgot to detach:doh:
DSC_0636.jpg

with the radiator support rod disconnected we finally rolled the chassis out

With this milestone reached in our project I got a little caught up in the moment......:grinpimp:

I sure hope we don't get any gusty winds in the next couple of days......

Made some more progress Sunday....... nothing to exciting but it was work that had to be done. Pops spent the whole day pressure washing the frame/ axles and scraping all the mud/ gunk out of the frame rails. My lil sis and I spent the day using paint striper to remove multiple paint jobs from over the years!

Enjoy the pics

Before pressure washing.....
