I know where you can get an '87 4runner for real cheap. I still have a key to my old one and I and could accidently drop it somewhere. Oh wait, there would be moral and criminal issues with that. Just a thought.

Oh no, now I've opened the door to 4runners, what's next... Samurais?

J/K, of course! I know they're very capable, several friends have owned them and I've driven a gen1 and a gen2 off road- WOW. I think that's what made me fall in love with 'yotas.

I still have my heart set on the flagship, though (ooh, hope that's not a contentious comment). You all have opened my eyes to the benefits of an 80 and increased my options, and I'm very grateful. Please keep those opinions coming. I assure you when I get my truck I will incessantly let everyone know why it's the best truck in the world. It's a character flaw.

Lots of options, so check them all out if you're not in a hurry. Again, I'll offer both of my 80s for you to check out. As far as finding an 80 with lockers, I place that attribute secondary to a well maintained vehicle. A mildly lifted 80 with 285 tires can do 90% of the family friendly wheeling that we typically do.

Ali, that is very cool of you, thanks! I would love to attend an event and meet you guys and look at all of your rigs, I'm sure it would be an awesome education.

I agree that a well-maintained vehicle is #1 on the list, whatever it is. I could follow you on 90% of your runs in my burb (yes I could! I've had guys in j**ps at the top of passes ask me "how'd you get up here?")... but if i have the option, it's time to hold out for a truck that can take my off-roading to a whole 'notha level.

Steve, that's a lot of quality 4runner knowledge, thanks! I've always loved the 1st gen runners, but I remember climbing the hill on 550 out of Bernalillo at 45 and I don't think pulling a trailer would be a good idea.

Rudy- so you 'lost your key', eh? I'll be right over to help you look for it! (Then I can spend all my money on mods!)

BTW, I heard back from Greg. He has moved and taken his cruiser with him. :(

yeah you are right beo, my 80 came from reno, nv. buddy of mine's brother owned it, pre the doctor 's wife who had it in san diego...rough life for it, mostly after i bought it :hillbilly:

re the 80, i'm 6'3" 250ish, and if daisy and i can fit in them it's possible, he has me beat ;p ... you can make/buy seat-brackets to move the rail motion rearward, gaining a coupl einches of leg room, look for landtank in the 80 section, which is great if you don't need another 6'3 behind the driver seat. i use mine stock config and i am cozy but very comfortable. xbillion on drive someones before you go the 60 route... just so you know and can deal with the mental demons of "should i".

the blue 80 that was posted before...I will say that it is a great deal! unless there's something major that needs done to it, I'd find a way to make it happen. I seriously looked at it hard. but after talking with the wife at length about it, we are out of the market for an 80. it would make 6 vehicles for us and we just can't justify it. the Ford will be the expedition/tow/light camping rig.

that 80 is most of the way built and price is seriously low. trust me, I've been looking.

Bionic, the wife and I had "the talk" about that blue 80 earlier tonight. I've made him an offer and if there is any way I can make it happen, I will. I can't imagine finding a better built trail rig for the price. Hopefully I'll be buying a plane ticket to Dallas soon. I look forward to showing it off and thanking you all in person for the great opinions and advice.

And if not, there'll be another one along.

Adam

The Blue 80 is in Reno, NV I thought. Or am I missing something? I sent an email to a local buddy about this 80 to see if he knows the guy or anything about the vehicle.

The blue one is in Waco:

The black one, which I also like (though not as much as the blue one), is in Reno:

I asked Voodoo about the blue one, since he mentioned he lived close, but he hasn't seen it. Any info on either of them would be greatly appreciated, thanks!:D

The nice thing about an 80 (no, I'm not suggesting there really is anything nice about an 80) is there is a lot of brain-trust out there to help take care of any issues it might have. There will be common items that will need to be taken care of as part of the baseline maintenance (PHH, steering knuckles, as well as the usual fluid changes). Once it's mechanically sound then you can deal with the cosmetics, like the seats, and armor.

Also, it hasn't been said yet, but we get a nice discount at American Toyota. You need to ask for the MUD or HDC discount. Or, just make Dan's acquaintance.

Check your email.

 AAAARGH! The buyer for my Suburban fell through! Back to waiting, I guess. Here's an idea: when you shake on a deal, you better have the MONEY. :bang:

I hate selling stuff.

Anybody wanna buy a burb?

Funny, my wife says the same thing... must be true!

And another nice thing about an 80 is that if you ever decide to pursue a life of crime, they look very much like every other SUV on the road. Therefore you will have a better chance of not being identified by a witness at the scene:

Cop: "Can you describe the getaway car, sir?'
Witness: "Yessir. It was was a gray-ish wagon."
Cop: "Can you tell me the make or model? Any other distinguishing characteristics?"
Witness: "Yessir. It had silver wheels - might have been aluminium, and a kind of a roof rack. I think it also had tinted windows. I think it was a 4Runner, or maybe a Camry wagon. Actually, it might have been a Mitsubishi.... or a Nissan, maybe? Anyway, it had those funny European headlights. It might have had a trailer hitch too."
Cop: "Right. Ummm, thanks."

There has been a theory going around that this is why Ash has two 80 series. Of course this is only a theory.

So... does that info go in the "pro" or "con" column? Maybe "con" for CONVICT?

You all sound more and more like my kinda folks... all breakin' the law and what-not.
