NEW Classifieds!

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, Skimlinks, and others.

I'm trying to be open to change but the new classifieds homepage seems like a random dump of random. I'm going to miss the simplicity of just popping into the forum I cared about. I'll see about using the filters to try and recreate that.

But what about notifications? I only want notifications for specific "categories". That was the primary interface i used to find ads that interested me.

Every category can be watched individually, or you can watch the main sections.

The Watch link is at the top. It literally works identical as it did, just more sections.

Another trick - create a Classifieds Search using Search classifieds - https://forum.ih8mud.com/search/?type=cas_ad

Get your parameters set...in my case, I narrowed to Search Classifieds Only (checkbox) , 80-series, Parts Classifieds, unchecked comments and unchecked Q&A. I did it on my phone, and saved it to my Chrome bookmarks. I then revisited the link with my laptop (where I'm typing this now), and all my search parameters were already present.

What is Q&A vs comments?
Q&A is based on buyers asking questions and the seller has the option to highlight those for others on their listing.

Comments are....well.... comments. "Cool rig bro"

I see there's a third way to interact, feedback. Too many options IMO.

We'll see how folks use it but I can see people just defaulting to responding to the threads using the reply box at the bottom, which defaults to a "comment".

So I do wonder if everything will just become a comment. Like it used to be.

Feedback is a rating for buyers and sellers. I'm guessing you would prefer to buy from members with positive feedback. Or make an effort as a buyer/seller to earn positive feedback.

There are a dozen trips and tricks in this thread. Worth reading them.

I am not interested in the feedback stuff personally and I won't be going out of my way to earn points.

I have never been scammed here and when i do feel the need for due diligence (only happened once on a particularly big purchase), I asked for references and checked them myself. I value the classifieds here for the personal touch and tight-knit communiy.

It's all good though. My personal prediction is that comments will rule over questions and feedback won't gain critical mass. We will see!

minor complaint now is the Classifieds tab on top is bombarded with unread listings. Is there anyway to not have that? Eventually it'll get to 999+ I assume? As someone who hates notifications it's a bit annoying to look at LOL.

Discussed earlier, plus there is a thread on exactly this in the Help section.

It is a setting in your Preferences, under Content Options. https://forum.ih8mud.com/account/preferences Lots of other new Classified settings in there as well, worth reviewing.

I'll remove it entirely in a week or so, globally. By then, users should have their Watch settings figured out for the sections they are interested in and can set their own individual alerts in their Preferences.

(Also posted in Chat…. But suggested to post here….)

Was trying to request a shipment on MUDSHIP, but it says I don’t have enough privileges or something.

Can somebody put me know what to do to sign up for that…. Is it like SChat?

Thanks

I need to relocate/reactivate MUD ship....on it...

To be honest, I don't really care for the new classified setup. It appears to be very clunky. Now that the ads take up so much room, there is no quick scanning to check on things. I was always hoping to have a dedicated section for the type of vehicle. Now when I open it up, I have to wade through vehicles for sale to.

I will learn how to put filters on this and have favorites.

Filters will make it quick and easy, I've covered that plus saved searches a couple times.

This is one I created last week, an 80-series specific parts search.

here's another, a saved Filter for Parts Classifieds, ads that mention "carb" :

I'm with you. Even once filtered down to the types of things I care about, the chunky UI is hard to wade through.

On my mobile browser, once I've waded to a particular ad, I see:

* A large photo with no context.
* Scrolling down I come to a couple of green tags and a title.
* Then an orange Buy Now button (did I just stumble into eBay?)
* Then a bunch of metadata (colored ratings, dates, times, little clock symbols)
* then the title again, the price again, and some useless specs (ex: condition good)
* then 4 different orange buttons with different things to say to the seller
* then the title again
* Finally, the first thing I care about, a description of the thing for sale
* then the other thing I care about, photos, but they are thumbnails, half blurred, with more metadata that I don't care about (the filesize and # of times viewed per photo)
* then the last thing I care about, the comment box for talking about the ad
* then a a repeat of the photo from the top
* then a bunch more metadata I don't care about, except the Location field

If you're open to feedback, simplify simplify simplify the UI and put the important stuff up top. Title, Price, Location, Description, Photos.

Don't obscure the photos or make me click through them individually.

Don't give me 5 buttons for talking to the seller, I just need one.

Don't prefill the response forms, making me delete the auto-text so I can use my own words.

And finally, I want to say I really appreciate 'mud and the people working on it. I am only giving this hopefullly constructive feedback because I like it here.

There are 3 view options within Classifieds. Select LIST as your default. These buttons switch between views. Once you have set it, forget it (it should stay that way forever)

Right low you are in Tile view...absolutely terrible, I'll try and ditch it entirely.

Red circle switches the look

I'm talking about what I see once I open a single specific ad.

Contact is just that: contact the seller (rather than click their username and fumble your way thru learning how to create a Direct Message)
Feedback has been a requested feature for MANY years. Positive, neutral, negative. Seller/buyer rating. That stays.
Make offer is an option when setting up the ad.

Click and thumbnail and you can scroll thru the pics. I also hate fhunbnails, but with a max 10 images per classified, fullsize images are a mess too. Users can select what image size when they post (most ignore it, and default to thumbnail). I also cannot control the pic quality, some people just take terrible photos.

That auto-filled Contact response used to be a dozen lines. (actually buy now still is....need to deal with that) I shortened it, so at least you aren't deleting a short story before writing another one :) However, it's also useful for members who aren't as savvy when it comes to messaging....at least item name/link is included in the subject and content, rather than a blind "about your classified" or "hey" with no other context. My inbox is a mess with the hundreds of non-descript messages.

Ill see if there is a means to not wrap lines to shorten it somewhat. Too much editing can create endless headaches during upgrades tho, so I need to be cautious.

Its not an issue of pic quality. The site is blurring the thumbnails and overlaying metadata.

I know what all the features are now that I've played with it. All I am saying is that the overall effect is Too Much Stuff. It is a visual whirlpool of UI elements and data points and redundant information..

The UI would benefit from some simplification/refinement.
