Hi Everyone -

I need some advice on wet passenger & driver floor boards. I have done plenty of searching so far but have not found any feed back that has helped me. I feel that I have followed all of the standard advice. Here is the low down:
  • Factory Toyota windshield
  • Very healthy seal. I went around the entire windshield gasket with a screw driver and it was really well sealed.
  • Sunroof drains have been scoped with weed hacker cord.
  • The holes in the frame have been poked free with a zip tie and test water has flown through from sunroof to frame rail with no problem.

The passenger side is the worst but wetness is present on both sides. I peeled back the carpet and had a small amount of standing water in both sides where the wire loom rests. The fire wall is dry. I cleaned and dried everything the best I could - two days of rain, without driving the truck at all, and the dampness is back.

PLEASE HELP!

Have you pulled the kick panels to see if water is coming down somewhere in the A-pillar next to the dash?

Also, have you tried pouring a large amount of water down the sunroof drain lines at once? When I would slowly poor water down mine, they drained fine. However, if I sent a lot down at once, they would back up and I'd get water in the A-pillar near the grab handle and then it ran down to the floor. I'm guessing my hoses are cracked or split. Since I have the fabric headliner (91-94) I just sealed off the sunroof and disabled the motor. I didn't want to bother pulling the headliner to fix the hoses. It initially bugged me that I was "hacking" a solution, but I'm over it and on to dealing with other issues.

Also, I'd go ahead and reseal the windshield with the polyurethane method found all over 'Mud. It can't hurt anything, and it could be the culprit. Mine "appeared" to be fine, but looks just don't tell the whole story. I resealed mine and it fixed the leak (one of them, anyways) I was having.

The build thread for my '92 (see signature) has a few photos of how I sealed the windshield and sunroof...

I had a similar issue. Drove me crazy. Ended up discovering my front heater core had a hair line crack on the tube where it goes through the firewall. It was very slowly seeping down and getting the floorboard wet. My coolant level surprisingly never dropped but my floors were always wet. If you have toyota coolant you might be able to see a little of the pink "crust" that forms when it dries around the carpet padding. Just an idea. Or your evaporator drain could be plugged up.

In my case was a sunroof top leak, I had to remove the ceiling and sealed it.

I was amazed for the amount of water that was entering, those were not drips, it was a continuous flow of water getting into the car, put it back and after the first rain, the problem was there again, so I had to remove again the ceiling and found out another leak, so I sealed again and waited for weeks for another rain prior to install the ceiling again and finally after the rain it was confirmed that the seal works fine so I reinstalled the ceiling back.

Even though the leak is on the sunroof, once the water is inside it looks for a lot of places to go down, so even if you see the leak in another place, it might be the case that the root cause is you sunroof.

Thanks for the advice. I'll let you know if I can track anything down.

Super easy install and the results are well worth $10 I spent on the LEDs. I bought them from superbrightleds.com. Super fast shipping and now I'm kinda thinking I might be inspired to do the rest of the HVAC lights to match.

Round 2 installing my RS3000 -

Turns out that I had the wrong harness completely originally. Cruiser parts got me a new one and it plugged in without problem. Anyone interested in this know that there is two harnesses - one for cars with manual climate control and one for cars with digital climate control.

Turns out that 96-97 Landcruisers need the, newer style, black fob. This is the early style fob and it wouldn't pair. Once they sent me the right one, I was up and running first try. So satisfying having keyless entry! :)

Worked on the truck this weekend:

Im not super happy with the Dupli color silver I choose. It looks way better than having a bunch of chipped paint obviously. I wet sanded and applied clear coat so I'm probably not going to re-do it. :)

Then this happened!

So happy with how the bumper turned out! No winch yet, hopefully by this summer.

Stereo is next on my list. It's gotta happen.

An idea for your bumper...

Finally got a new set of U Joints! Install was pretty easy, here are the pics.

Check out the dry end of this joint. This was definitely the weak point that was causing all my vibrations.

The difference before to after was huge! So happy to have this done with. Next week we're road tripping to the Trinity Alps in Northern California. Looking forward to exploring some of the local trails. :)

Man I really need to redo my U joints as well. Lifted a few inches and I'm getting some decent howl out of my front driveline..

Do you still have the old style key fob? I wouldn't mind taking that off your hands!

Hey guys!

Here are some pics from the last month or so.

I can't say enough good things about these trucks. I've finally gotten stuck and "needed" lockers! That was a great feeling. Also did my first water crossing.

Enjoy the pics.

@80proof
Its all yours. I think they go for about $50?

I had the same problem with mine. Ended up being the door seals. Water would run down the gutters past the door seals to the floor board. I temporarily fixed the issue with some duct tape. Still have not gotten around to installing the new seals.

I had the same issue, and it was from the sunroof. There is a thread about cleaning out the drains. The sunroof is not water tight and if the drains clog up, water goes down the A piller and onto the carpet. You can pour some water down them to see if it drains out under the chassis.

Finished the rest of my sound system.

Went with a Pioneer 10 and matching enclosure and Rockford Fosgate 500w amp. It was my first time installing a sub+amp and it was all really smooth. I had fun with it trying to hide everything as much as possible.

I had originally planned to build a custom enclosure that fit into the stock sub location but the cost and time just wasn't worth it. In the end I just wanted better music and this box is really easy to move when ever I need the space.

Wanted to find a sexy mount for the remote bass control knob. I think it came out pretty good! :)
