Great photos. The update is appreciated. Those shackles look unfamiliar. Are they from Cruiser Outfitters?

Wetsanding (seemingly endless)/cut/buff of all the individual painted parts before assembling with all new hardware from @overlandmetric.

The best part so far is reassembling different pieces after being disassembled for so long. Everything is cleaned, treated for rust, then given a coat of paint and finally new hardware with antisieze paste.

Nice to see it starting to resemble an Fj40 again!

Some assembly required. Added new apron emblems and restored the old front blinker/running lights.

Added a ground wire to the lights and ran a wire to a dedicated ground location in the engine bay.

Then cleaned and painted the housing and buffed the lens to a nice new shine. New rubber boots for the bottom came from CityRacer.

It’s coming together nicely Jen. You two are doing a great job! It will be on the road soon now.

No, someone sent those to me, not sure who makes them. They might be a little too long, if they are I will probably replace with the cruiser outfitters shackles.

Final wet sand and buff on the hood.

Was nice to get all of the accessories back on, mostly new Toyota hood and windshield latches.

Since this 40 will run topless or just a small bikini top 🤪 a solution was needed for the rear tailgate. We fabricated a bolt on tailgate that would have a jerry can holder attached with the OEM license plate holder bolted to that.

License plate mount attached to jerry can holder. A dedicated ground wire was ran down with the light wiring and fed thru a small grommet hole behind the Jerry can holder.

Bolt on tailgate painted and bumperetts, reflectors, rear step, tail lights and spare tire carrier with spare mounted.

Great work Jen!

Luv the all the photos of progress and so cool you are painting it yourself!

If Mattel comes out with a "Toyota Barbie" it should be the Aloha Jen version ;)

Aloha Jen. I didn’t realize you had a thread on ih8mud. Cool.
I follow ya on instagram instead. It’s gonna be a nice 40. Cheers.
Yes, I have threads for all my builds. I’m just very behind on updating this thread on my 40. It’s almost all caught up to where it’s at today.

Is it just the two upper hinges that are holding the one-piece tailgate in place? That‘s a fair amount of weight (full jerry can) cantilevered off the back not to have some sort of attachment near/along the bottom (e.g. lower hinges). But if rig is only to be used on flat terrain probably ok. Nice build work, great partnership!

It sure is coming along great!
great color and nice how that hood and front end square up nicely.
good job!

I don't see any wheel weights on your rims. Were the tires not balanced when you had them mounted?

Get shorter shackles and or caster shims for a nice driving , the way it is now will make it hard to drive straight
As soon as the gas tank gets reinstalled I will be able to test drive it and check how it drives. Currently the shackles look to be 4 3/4 inches from center of the bolts. This is too long?

Stock shackles are 3” from center to center so it looks like you’ve got a bit of a lift. Not too long if you like it but I’m guessing caster shims will help greatly. You’ll just need to figure out the degree once you have het back on her feet.
