If they can make plastic cup holders, they can def make a run of these! Boom, make it happen. You da man.

I'd love to tackle that project but I've got one too many irons in the fire right now. But who knows. Hopefully the 60 ones pan out.....

My 60 ones are round in the tailgate

I know there are oval plugs on 60 somewhere . I stripped 2 for parts about 6 years ago, I just can't remember where they were on the truck. Sorry fellas! Maybe I'll remember where they were one day?!

I've been thinking about buying a 62.....maybe this is a good excuse to make that happen.

I want to say they were 1.75" by 1"....

Wagon is in my garage....I will go confirm.

Yup....1.5 x .75. That sounds right. I forgot to measure the wagon today and swapped it out for a different truck.

Making a change to my fuel system. I'm on external pump number 3. They're loud and I think they're heating up and probably cavitating. I have a feeling that the pump isn't far enough below the tank....the location is forcing it to suck....which it's not designed to do. This tank, as I recall, also may have had a fuel pickup tube issue.....part of the reason the truck got parked. I should have put the pump in the tank originally but I've always had good luck on my 3FEs with this setup on the 40s.....again....part of the reason I suspect the location of the pump to the tank may be the issue. Way different on the 40 vs. the LV.

I'll detail out the in-the-tank pump kit as well as how we went about doing it. The kit is pretty cool and convenient as it includes most everything. The fuel sender is very slick. Really excited to use that. Should be way better than the modded OEM one I was using.

Here's most of the junk that will be used for what we're doing...

I used something similar to add a sump. Tank inc kit. If i experience any fuel starvation i might change from the sump tray to a hydra mat from holley. I do agree on the in tank pump being way quieter and hopefully lasting longer. Thanks for always sharing your process.

Started on the tank today.....a little more complex than I expected. I think I'd just build my own setup if I was to do it again. The size of the top plate is just about the same as the indentation area where the fuel sender is on the LVs tank. So we had to metal work that area quite a bit to get it all flat. A larger plate would have been far easier but I wanted to use what I bought since I paid for it. It will be fine....the metal work turned out good. Hope to have the pump in there tomorrow. There is a lot of setup in getting the fuel cup setup to the right height.

This is the area we had to cut...the silver Sharpie square is the area you see when you look down thru the cover plate in the bed. Mine is offset because I had installed a 90 degree fitting on the right side of the sender for fuel return. I wanted to eliminate that. And if there were even more obstacles....the drain plug sticks up right where the fuel cup and sender go. Fun stuff!

Here it is after what seemed like hours of my guy making a massive amount of racket pounding on it. He was having a case of the "Mondays" I think so he took it out on the rest of us with the pounding.

More pics tomorrow.....they will be far more interesting too. I sucked at taking pictures today.

The highlight of the day was finding this in the mailbox. Thanks to @RAGINGMATT on here for making this. It's PERFECT. I love it. Finished off my engine compartment exactly the way I was hoping. Quite honestly, it might be my favorite thing on the truck. That probably sounds really weird.

@RAGINGMATT might be one of the best vendors I've dealt with. Incredible communication and a total pro. I can't believe I've never come across him before. Glad I did.

I keep forgetting to post this......we had an issue with a lot of my door release levers rattling where they attached to the lock mechanism release lever. I think we determined that there were small springs in them at one point(I think we found them in one of the rear doors?)....helped keep tension on them to prevent rattles. The rear tailgate had a horrible issue with rattles coming from both release rods. My guy popped in a small o-ring and voila.....rattle solved.

I like trying to make old rattle trap metal trucks rattle free....I'm a glutton for punishment.

Here's the o-ring in place....

Got the pump in and going....did a quick test drive and all seems well. A longer drive will of course be necessary....that happens tomorrow. Need to set the Dakota for the new fuel level sender now which is a process and cap off the old pickup tube. Then I drive it. A lot.

Big job to get that pump in there.....lots going on. I would make my own plate/setup now after using this one. Probably just a square plate about the size of the access panel opening. Easier to maneuver in and out and easier to get all the stuff in there.

The assembly just barely fit under the inspection cover. We had to push up the floor a little with a jack and 2x4. Hopefully we won't have any rattles between the plate and the pump. I'm sure we can figure out something if so. We dropped the tank down about 1/8" of an inch too with some rubber pads under the felt spacers/cushions.

Pump is a generic pump from Amazon.....came with a bunch of filters so I could find the one I needed for the 4" cup. It came with 7 different filter configs. Had to get a little creative with the return line as I only bought a foot of submersible fuel pressure line($36/foot!).

The pump has ZERO noise now. Nothing. If the truck didn't run, I'd say it wasn't pumping. It's what I was hoping for.
