A couple of years back I was able to build a nice FJ60 for the owner of the local Chick Fil A franchise.

The truck has served him well but I could tell he was getting the bug to buy something so I let him know about the HZJ-80 I had just imported from Saudi.

I had just put it up for sale and personally I thought it would be a perfect fit for him

Nice is this the one you posted on ig thats getting a lift. How long have you had that big red Toyota sign just noticed it on that post.

The Cliff Note version if you don't read the FS ad is that they sold maybe 1 in 1000 diesels versus gas trucks in Saudi. Could be more like 1 in 5000. They are crazy rare. Why? Well the 1FZ is godly there and gas was basically free in the 90s there so why screw with a turd diesel?

I'll say, I was extremely surprised at how well this natural diesel moved this 80.

So, fast forward to a couple of weeks ago and he came out for a test drive and then dropped his 60 with me to sell and sent a pile of money to Saudi Arabia for this thing.

Yes.

I bought it from my good friend Chad Smithson last year.

Oh boy. Grogan and an oil burner…. I’m putting his phone number on “silent” for the course of this build. 😂😂
I'm changing the oil. If it needs anything beyond that we are ****ed.

Since he bought it he got a battery and some 285s. Today he picked it up from Its Vinyl where he got a 3M tint.

67,000 miles is crazy for a 30 year old car.

The amount of room under the hood with this thing is insane.

You fly me in and I knock it out. Or send up to Harris.

You need to at least drop the oil pan and check the BEBs. While they were a problem on earlier 1HZ/1HD-T engines, the theory is that Toyota upgraded the metallurgy on them.

That said, on any 30 year old truck, we replace them every time.

Also, timing belt/water pump and valve clearance check. Fuel filter as well. Those are mandatory if no history.

You’d be doing your client a disservice without this very basic diesel maintenance.

I’ll call you tomorrow to discuss. Very different bird than the gasser 1FZs.

Timing belt was done. There is a sticker. Not sure about all the rest of that s*** but Meshal ran it through all the maintenance there before shipping. New belts, hoses, radiator as well. Fuel filter is for sure new.

BEBs are essential. Even you can figure it out.

Drain oil, drop oil pan, loosen bolts for cons, rotate for all 6, replace with new Taihos. You will need new con rod bolts.

I am glad this truck is going to be around you!

When I found this truck for sale as an ex-government truck, I thought we should do the common desal stuff like the timing belt and filter. But because I don't trust Gov trucks in general, I decided to pull the head, check it, and do the valve clearance check. We also fixed the heater line that was broken and replaced it with a used line and new hoses.

We got and replaced the following:
Radiator
Hoses
Fuel filter
Fuel cab
Fuel tank cab
Timing belt
Belts
Headgasket

This list is going to be updated if my guy updates me with parts I missed

Beno flexing on me. Funny. NA 1HZs don't have that problem. Quit trying to scare me.

Back to s*** I do know about .....

Im a huge fan of the stock height Dobinsons coils.

Pre lift the truck was 45" to the under fenders. After the "stock height" springs it came up to 47" in the front and 47.5" in the rear. Perfect.

One problem I ran into was that the rear Dobinsons were out of stock on the rears so Georg saved the day with a set of Terrain Tamers.

Did you replace water pump and associated pulleys and tensioner? Thermostat?

Get some magnetic black dots for cow spots and have the accountant write it off as a work vehicle. Can deliver orders with it.

Could really pimp that ride and put an ice cream machine in the back. It would be a must have at cruiser events.

That is one cool cruiser with low miles

Can you ask him why the company as a whole stopped selling ice cream in large cups around 2020. I’ve stopped going as much since they stopped selling the bigger cups of ice cream.
