Can anyone explain how to properly adjust the compass on my HDJ81? I know it's electric, and mine seems to work. Except I can't for the life of me figure out how to adjust the dam thing. Every time I think I have it right, well...I don't. I did see a Japanese set of instructions which was nearly 2 pages long so it strikes me it's not all that simple. Can anyone elucidate?

is there some kind of button to hold down?
you need to either reset it by using the button or disconnecting the battery.
then drive in three complete circles and it should recalibrate.

this is based on the info i have absorbed in my experince, in a typical enviroment. i hope this info is realavent to you.

First, you should point your rig due north and adjust the compass to point "N" by using the "N" screw.

Then point your rig east and do the same with the "E" knob. Repeat it several times until it points to the right direction. The manual states a few times, but I did mine like a dozen times to get it right on.

You're supposed to re-calibrate every once in a while, too.

Good luck!

I adjusted mine by using an honest to goodness boyscout compass and adjusted mine from there. Just bring the boyscout compass while driving around town and check the vehicle compass every now and then to see if they match. my .02
