New gasket on the way!

Remflex Exhaust Header Gasket Sets 7009

Remflex

Remflex gasket ordered for the manifold. Took Montina on poacher patrol this morning. One of the local plantation managers saw evidence of poachers in the area yesterday. He heard shots and saw the blood trail so we are all on high alert around here.

We had a buck poached on our property a month ago 😡. That‘s my rig on the road below it. The people in the house in the distance heard a shot around 9:30pm and saw a vehicle stopped where my rig is. Nothing removed from the animal. Clear bullet wound in lethal zone. Road shot most likely. Fish and Game are investigating. I’m locked and loaded.

Nothing worse than a poacher especially when they kill indiscriminately. We haven’t had a problem in many years but I guess they are here now. Local hunters put a lot of year round effort and money into providing a habitat and leasing hunting property for hunting season and get all the proper tags and licenses. It’s a shame someone just comes a long and takes advantage of that. If someone needed the meat I would give them meat but poachers mainly go for the trophy racks and leave the rest. It’s a waste sadly. We are pretty tight around here so eventually they will get caught and the DNR will handle them.
You have a nice fj45 by the way!

Proud of you mate for both reasons: Montina and anti-poacher awareness!

what paint did you use. It looks very good.
I used the Cruiser Corps Dune Biege 416 in the spray can.

I had bought two cans a while back and was just going to spray over the primer. After I removed the primer with the oven cleaner and pressure wash to see what was underneath, I kept going back and forth on whether or not to have it professionally prepped and sprayed. I didn't want to worry about scratching up an expensive paint job right now so on a whim (about a six pack's worth) one evening I decided to just use the rattle can and cover the exposed metal and PO bondo work. I didn't even clean or prep to be totally honest, I just started spraying and "Ta Daaah!" a temporary solution for about $20 bucks. It looks decent enough and I can just touch it up as I intend to keep using Montina for a farm truck. There will be scratches. At this point I will use the other '79 FJ40 as my total restoration project and do a full paint. We will see as I tend to change my mind, lol.

On another note, the Ramsey PTO winch works, except for the free spool, so I just need to buy some new line and install on the drum. I can't decide whether to go synthetic or wire as I will be using it to move logs and fallen trees. Occasionally I might need it to pull me out of mud.

I found these D-rings under the shed, too much????

Finally the rattle can comes out...money well spent.

The difference in pics in post 62 vs. 66 say it all.

Best bang for the money! Cool thing is I can always just touch it up when I get a scratch. I’m not worried about destroying an expensive paint job. At this point just want to drive it and enjoy! 😁

Finally getting around to installing the new suspension on Montina. The Dobinson's 2" IMS kit from @TRAIL TAILOR fit great minus some rust in the spring mounts. I cleaned them up, ospho'ed, and sprayed them rust oleum gloss black enamel to hold back any further rust. The rear is done, now have the front to do as well as the TRE's to install. It was a tight fit, but I managed to get both cruisers in my shop.

Have you considered caster shims up front?
before you trim your ubolts make sure you wouldn’t benefit from them. my steering was greatly improved by adding 4* shims from Georg at Valley Hybrids.

I asked Jason @TRAIL TAILOR and he said it didn't need the shims when I ordered the kit. I've been tossing it around in my head about ordering some since several folks on here have said they make a big difference. I may go without them initially and see how she handles. I probably won't bother trimming the bolts anytime soon so I can add the shims later.

It was the most dramatic improvement I’ve done to the steering. I can actually one hand it on squirly roads without being afraid I’m going to randomly dart into oncoming traffic.
