Tear Down of the donor Motor has begun. It looks like it was pretty well abused in it's past life. Nasty Valve Train all the internals look baked and cruddy. I'm guessing the groove for the Key in the HB on the Crank can be repaired.

I think this choice was better in the long run than trying to do an engine swap with a 350 or a diesel...

Keeps it stock TOYOTA!! :grinpimp:

What is the plan?

Nothing to shnazzy Chris, RV Cam for the rebuild, have the head rebuilt take a few thousandths off, same with the block, looks like the cylinders will just need a re-hone and some hot tanking on both to get'm cleaned up. Have the rods and pistons checked. I'm hoping a hone and re-ring will be all she needs. TBI kit is in the plan as well, new headers and some odds and ends.

that's cool man. I have never rebuilt an engine and it is on my bucket list. you should make this a K.I.S.S. step by step thread for people like me.

The other thing I am curious about is who you are going to get to do the machining? ACC recommended someone to me for the work on my head for a valve job but they are way down on the east side of ATL. You have someone in mind up here?

That crank looks rough. I would start looking for a replacement or find a machine shop that can weld it back up and re-machine it back to spec.

If you decide to replace the crank I have a spare or two in AL.

I'd ditch that crank. Not to say it can't be fixed but it's probably going to be cheaper to find another good crank then fix that one. Cutting that keyway correct isn't going to be easy.

Thanks for the advice on the crank fellas I appreciate it. I'd like to take it to the shop that's going to do the machining for me to see what they think about it. If not for the (3) god forsaken screws holding the timing cover backing plate on the block I would have done this Saturday. Those bastards aren't budging.

Probably be getting in touch with you about a spare crank. Thanks a lot.

Chris,
There's a machine shop here in Calhoun they did a real nice job on the last head I had done on my current motor. Can't recall the name it used to be "Bumper to Bumper" auto parts it's changed names since then, located on main street.

Well I am pulling the head off my donor 2F today and want to get it done. Guess I will see if I can find your place. I will stop at Smith here in Rome first and see what they tell me. I have heard good things about Smiths but don't know how they will do on a 2F.

Edit: Head came off easily.
It actually looks fine and a straight edge shows it is straight. I am tempted to just slap it on and go but I guess it would be stupid to do all the work and wind up with a bad valve or something.
The inside of the donor motor is pretty bad so it is likely there could be something wrong with the head. What's another couple hundred bucks. :meh:

Chris,
I'll more than likely be going by this shop this Friday afternoon or Saturday to see if this crank shaft is worth repairing i'll get some better contact info for you.

Cool. Thanx Ben
Edit: I stopped at Larry Smith machining today here in Rome on Bale Street. I have had them do some things for me in the past including a flywheel. I spoke to Larry himself and he had high confidence of working on the 2F. he said he had done some in the past and found out they were very easy because they were so similar to a straight 6 Chevrolet engine.
he said he even had valve guides in stock for those engines. so I guess I'm going to drop it off there on Monday, he said there would be about a 3-day turnaround. wish me luck.
