I was commenting on this: " It's the best/ only option in reality." Because Marks discontinued the crawl box.

Has anyone that have replaced the gears also replaced all the bearings? I have been fighting a horrible noise, and it sounds like its coming from below the passenger seat. My t-case has a leak and I am thinking to replace all the bearings at the same time.

Yes I had Robbie replace every single bearing in that sucker. Not cheap but good piece of mind considering how much wear, tear and work the xfer does all the time.

aikirilo swapped gears in two as a driveway project.

Think Big D did the grinding and actual gear/bearing install, but could be wrong.

Sorry I am a bit out of touch, "swapped gears in two"? Bid D?

If it is my transfer case making the noise then I believe it to be my transfer case front drive shaft output bearing. Soooo sick of this problem...

I wouldn't go that far, but a picture is worth a thousand words.........

Nothing

Another view of...well....nothing.

Nice, I don't think my sliders would handle Waterfall like that. I HAVE to fix this deceleration noise before something blows, and then I will be ready to get back out there. Did you air down on that run?

I don't think my shorts would handle that, even from the passenger seat of that rig.

Specs of the white truck please. Very impressive driving. Nevermind the machinery!

when it comes time to replace the birfields who in their right mind wouldn't put on selective hubs. when its time for hubs who wouldn't go ahead and go part time xfer. when its time for part time xfer who wouldn't go ahead and put in marlins gears.

these dollars are approx"
toyota birfs: 750 per side or $1500 both

longfield birfs: 750 both
hubs 200
having your VC welded: 150
marlin gears 800

tank of gas: 80

so if you do the work yourself you get a way more badass setup for the cost of 5 fn tanks of gas more than stock birfs from toyota.

nah i'd rather just have a new cup holder.:censor:

I will prob take you up on this as soon as I get my junk back together. I'm hoping someone at SCC will be equipped for a test ride.

I got numerous complaints at SCC last year that my brake lights weren't working...4.88's plus Marlin t-case gears added a lot of downhill control.

You are welcome to drive mine at SCC this year.

I drove my 1996 FZJ80 to SCC last year (2000 miles roundtrip). Drove it to TX this year. (1400 miles) then to Vegas and Moab for EJS (trip total was 4500ish). Drove it to Rubicon in June (4500 roundtrip). Drove it to OTMT in TN in August (1600 roundtrip). And am planning to drive to SCC again this year, followed by a trip to TX for a meeting the following week and the drive home (another 2000 miles)

Zero highway issues. I didn't replace one single bearing, tho my motor/trans/case only has about 100k on it.

The 25% is noticable, but I DO push 2nd gear start anytime I drive...then manually shift down into 1st if necessary. It's almost TOO slow for bombing around in low, I need to get into the habit of shifting into high range more often as it runs out of top end quickly.

Add to this, drove from Vegas to Ensenada MX and it was used to chase the Baja1000 to Lapaz, then driven back to Vegas (and trailered home)...2500+ miles.

I'll wager I've got over 20k miles on the gears right now...truck has 233k on it now, started 2013 with 216k, and had about 210k on it when it went to SCC last year.

Just did my first off road trip with the 3:1 installed. This is a GREAT mod. Nice and slow when you need it, great control on down hills. As Woody mentioned though, its not as good for cruising in low. I had to shift back into high more often than I'm used to. Totally worth it though.

Specs on truck: 285s, stock gearing in diffs. 1HD-T.

If anyone is interested in purchasing a set within the next few weeks please send me a PM. If we get at least five committed orders we would likely get a discount. I should know the final purchase cost some time next week.

I've also talked to Georg and he has done this install several times and he could do this for us if we give him some time to schedule it.

hey woody, did you do the part time conversion on the front? seems to me not necessary if a mild lift is set up right and you deal with the driveline angles properly, and like me don't forsee the need for longfields (just carry a spare birf)......

I don't tend to do extreme rock crawling any more, 35's, just rubicon, moab, etc, but not pressing the extreme by an means.......

I have seen several 80s with the Marlin gears that are not part-time

I have no plans to go part-time when my aged-on-a-shelf-for-over-a-year-so-should-be-seasoned-enough  gears finally go in
