I recently bought an LX, 97, and I am in process of getting replacement keys. Unlike my 80, it seems I have to go through Lexus to get a fancy laser cut key, approx $230 quote. Surely there is a better option, short of replacing my ignition.

Any suggestions?

Im in the same boat paid $212 for mine.
I did not research any other alternatives.
If there is a better way I would also like to know for future.

HEB is awesome.

Yes, you can grab a key blank from anywhere. There's no transponder and you can have a new one milled from the 5-digit code. This style key is milled, not laser cut.

I bought a key from a vendor on ebay who cut it based on the key code taped to my owners manual for 20ish dollars shipped and it works great.

^^^ This, if you don't have the code and don't feel like taking the passenger door apart, some will do it from a picture of the key. Some locksmiths are equipped to cut them, call around.

X2

I did the same thing. Looks and works great.

What is the difference between a LX450 key and a FZJ80 key? I had a key cut based off the VIN for my FZJ80 at a Toyota dealer for under $10??

If you have seen a Lexus key a picture is worth a 1,000 words.
