i switched last year to depos when my OEMs leaked, froze and shattered. The depos are great, but i actually miss the OEMs. They were easier to change bulbs out of. Plus i dont like the look of the depos as much

In the depos, I had to install the bulbs before the headlight housings. Dont have the slee harness, but i bet the adapters i used would work.

Bulbs I used: Philips H4 and H1

And these adapters: two 900# to H1 and two 900# to H4

Thanks for the reply! Funny, my OEM lights are in good shape (I'll save them just in case) but I just wanted to update the look a bit. So, how do you like those Philips lights? Are the really white, or do they have a blue hue?

Thanks again.

Since I switched, the depos and bulbs put out more light in low beam, but leave a lot to be desired in high beams compared to OEM. The low beams are mostly white, and highs have a slight blue tint (not obnoxious for other drivers). I think its H1 lows and H4 highs?

i didn't consider how white would handle in dust, fog or white out blizzards. i just added a 20'' bar and 2 amber pods to fill these gaps. the ambers really cut in those white outs where as the white just reflects.

oh and nice rig by the way! always wanted to add a diesel to my 80!

Thanks for that feedback. Hopefully, I won't be exchanging peformance for looks when switching over to the Depo lights. Are you anywhere near NH? You can check out the diesel anytime.

you'll like them, they are a nice upgrade. You can easily switch back to OEM if you don't and you've got ambers already.

I used to live in NH until recently. graduated from UNH and moved out to CO/UT for now. I'll have to stop by next time i'm back in New England!

That's funny! I moved here from CO last year.

That bumper turned out great, I love it!

If you've got the budget for it, consider retrofitting an HID kit into the low beams on those DEPO's, the output of my bi-xenon projectors and 100w high beam bulbs is amazing, my aux lights really just change the color of the output and add some fill, the main headlight output makes them mostly redundant.

Depending on which year of HDJ81 you have, you may be missing the auxiliary high-beam plug, mine is. The Depo's are designed to have a single low-beam filament powered (H4 low), and two high-beam filaments powered (H4 high plus the H1). My HDJ81 had H3B fogs, so I need to wire up the newly added H1s. (And I will use the then extra fog wiring to run my Cibie Super Oscar LEDs.)

Depo housings came in the mail today! They look like quality units. But they didn't come with any bulbs. Any suggestions on what bulbs to use with these things?

I have H4 and H1 folks in front of me in traffic dont dig them, but they are serious and the depos throw a wide W pattern lights up well.

Do you mind posting a link to your build where I can see more!? I'm starting to get burned out on wrenching on my rig. But, in spring, I might copy you. For now, I ordered the Philips H1 and H4 bulbs, just to get by.

So, your HDJ came from the factory with dual filament low/hi beam headlights, with an additional hi beam? That's cool. I don't think mine is wired that way. (U.S. spec)

Do people flash their high beams at you when you are driving just with your low beams on? (Any angry reactions) Which bulbs are you using?

Link to my build is in my sig below, but I had my DEPO's sent out for the HID retrofit so there's no DIY details in my build.

HDJ81's came from factory with a low/high H4 in one bowl, and an H3 foglight in the other bowl of the headlights. My '91 had an unused plug for the H1 high beam taped up in the harness, so installing DEPO's was truly plug and play. My '93 doesn't appear to have the H1 plug in the harness that I can find, but I used an aftermarket harness due to the HID conversion so this wasn't an issue for me.

yes they think Im hi beaming BUT Im also lifted in traffic I just run my rigids and headlights off. i have 2 rigid SS on either side of the bumper so it lights it up but dosnet blind anyone.

It's been a crazy cold winter. For the last 2 weeks, lows have been below 0 F and highs have been around 5 degrees F. A storm is supposed to dump about a foot tomorrow and I just read the following about the weekend weather at the cabin:

New England Daily Snow Report | Snow Forecast
Places like Jay Peak, Cannon, Gunstock, Sunday River, they’re all going to have high temperatures in the negative teens. That’s simply dangerously cold. With the wind chill, don’t be surprised to see “feels like” temperatures around -70 F to -80 F. That’s instant frostbite folks to any exposed skin. For reference, dry ice is -110 F.

This is a crazy winter!

Here's a picture of the Landcruiser parked next to a Subaru at the cabin after the last storm:. That car isn't moving till May or June.

I grew up 15-20 minutes North of Jay, across the border. Lots of snow, sometimes cold as f__k.

Started my HDJ81 3-4 days at -28º science, this past week. But it finally failed, yesterday. So I dropped a new set of batteries into it. Forecast is for -31ºC/-24ºF overnight Friday and Saturday, just North of Ottawa, where I'm currently bunking. I consider -30ºC to be very cold.

The adventure continues! I was getting ready for a snack and my wife yells "I think that guy's stuck". I looked out my window and saw his small dump truck stuck:

I yelled and asked if he needed a tow. He said that a friend with a shovel was coming but he probably would need a tug. So, I drove over there and pulled him out. My Cruiser seemed so small next to his rig but with every yank we made 2 or 3 feet of progress. After 5 or so tugs, he was free. Best part, he's going to plow my driveway tonight!

The low beams and hi beams came in the mail. Just waiting on adapter harnesses and I should have everything I need to install the Depo lights. (I decided to just run the chrome insides for now. It's too cold for the paint and for me right now!)

I found this stuck in my sunroof drain hole. You guys have any idea what it is?

What kind of material is it?
