Depos installed! I was surpised that I had to remove grill, corner markers and turn signals to get the stock lights out.

Here's what they look like on:

Here's the look off:

Here's the light pattern, after I adjusted them. Those 45 degree shards of light are actually handy on the road... they act kind of like mini high beams for the edge of the road.

Over all, I'm happy with the result. I'll save my stockers, just in case I change my mind too.

Those angled up sections are to hit road signs on the shoulder, it's really what makes a headlight pattern specific for RHD vs. LHD roads.

I think the DEPO's shave years off the look of an 80 series, and they are pretty good quality compared to a lot of aftermarket headlights.

On Thursday I drove home from work and, when hitting the brakes, the Cruiser wanted to pull to the right. When I parked in the garage, I got out and saw smoke billowing from the front driver's wheel well. Looked in through the wheel and saw the caliper giving off a faint glow. This was a problem because my inlaws were arriving on Friday and I was supposed to drive everyone up to the Ice Castle, which was a 2 hour drive in each direction.

I pulled the caliper and, sure enough, the pistons were stuck. Luckily, I knew that a local shop still had a parts rig sitting out back. So, I swung by Wicked C.A.S. and bought a caliper off this rig:

Long term question: Where do you guys typically source parts like a caliper? New OEM? Reman? Grab used like I did?

Anyway, the caliper swap went off without a hitch and we made it out to the Ice Castle. Pics:

I got my rear calipers from Napa, cheap reman units that seem to work fine.

We went to the ice castle thing when it first came to our city two years ago and found it to be an overpriced and overhyped waste of time. It was over $60 or something for us to look at some piles of frozen water with a thousand other people.

Good to know that the NAPA caliper is holding up.

$60 per person for the Ice Castle? We paid less than that for 4 adults and a child! My son was target for that trip. He loved the caves and slides. Honestly, I thought the big slide was fun too. I should post my terrible video...

I've used remans in the past, the wife's GX470 eats front calipers, I've had to change about 4 in the 4 years we've had it.

For a second I thought your 80 was dead and covered in snow. Phew. Just a parts truck.

The parts gurus have thrown around Napa calipers a bunch. Apparently they are rebuilt OEM, with good components. There’s a 5 gallon bucket deal at Napa usually at least once in the summer. Anything you can fit in the bucket gets 20% off. I got all four calipers at a good price. Zero miles on them, project is still in build phase.

Haha, I didn't think about scaring anyone with that picture but, now that I look at it, I should have labeled the picture! That rig is the same color as mine, so I snagged some dash pieces and even the hood for safe keeping.

Here's a short video of my 3 year old son and I going down the ice slide together... it was actually pretty fun!

I had the same initial thought, lol.

That's good you guys enjoyed it. I guess we had 4 adults, hence the cost. When we went it was like -20c, and it we basically just a bunch of 5-10 minute line ups waiting for people to walk through an area, or look at a thing, or a 20 minute wait for a slide. Doing that with a 2 year old and 4 month old was just frustrating for the cost.

And yeah, I've done other vehicles with napa calipers and rotors, they've all lasted a long time without issue.

I recently switched to Napa, from the uber-cheap CAPS. CAPS is really a bad idea, they last about 3 minutes in a corrosive environment. We'll see how long the Napa's last, but they are lifetime warrantied.

Morimoto Mini H1's are a direct swap into Depo lows. You will never go back to stock with these installed!

My heart, no kidding dropped at first glance! Damn you Lumpy!

I had the same reaction to the parts truck picture :o

NAPA and Autocraft (Advance) calipers here. They appear to be remanufactured stockers. I think it's more economical to just get an OEM rebuild kit for your stockers, but convenience has always won out here. NAPA warranties theirs, but I've never needed it.

Been a few years, but last time I did my calipers the local toy dealership had them (reman). I just paid up front and got the core deposit back once the old ones were off and returned. The cost I don't think was much more than the Napa solution.

My rig is officially titled and registered as a diesel! Just in case I move to another state, I'm happy that's taken care of.

No mods, but I figured I'd give this thread a quick update. A couple weekends ago, we decided to check out the New Hampshire coast.

We started at a beach at the border with Mass. With wind chill, it was below 0. I had never seen ice on a beach before. That's all frozen ocean!

We worked our way north, checking out local beaches along the way. Chunky threw rocks in the water every chance he got.

Stopped at a local air field and had lunch in the cafe. I'm thinking that I want to start flying again. So, I got some pricing information. Piper Cub rental is only $110/hr.

From there we headed north again. I want to see the Isle of Shoals when it warms up.

We stopped in some fishing towns along the way. It was neat to see a few spots that hadn't gotten taken over by rich people's mansions.

We got as far as North Hampton, where we stopped a looked at some tide pools. It was a cool spot where I could drive the Cruiser right up to the water. Here's what most of the rocky New England coast line looks like.

Some of the rocks were really interesting to look at:

Wifey and Chunky had a great time too.

That's all for now.

I guess I'm becoming a Toyota nerd... I decided to buy an OEM Toyota Jerry Can for the Land Cruiser. Any issue with storing diesel in these?

That's awesome! No idea why storing diesel in that would be a problem.
