I've been super busy designing parts for the 4th Gen 4runner market, but, finally getting around to these!
Diode Dynamics was nice enough to send me over a pair of their rocklights to integrate for these - these have two brightness settings (that'll get controlled by the switch on the drivers side housing), but they're supposed to be coming out with a dual white/red version soon - I'll definitely be interested in that!

Photographing dark black items in my super bright garage is challenging, so there's some artifacts in the photos - apologies for that!

This is a 3 position switch - it'll get setup as high/off/low. I'm going to be pulling positive 12V from the rear dome light, and the negative from the switched ground in the hatch latch - that should mean that it only would have power when the rear hatch is open! That's important since when the hatch is closed those lights are pointing forwards - don't want to blind someone in the car just by opening one of the side doors, hahah.

Passenger side! It's a mirror of the drivers side, minus the hole for the toggle switch.

Here's what it looks like when the hatch is shut! Not overly protrusive.

Look at how nicely that contours!! Definitely happy with how these came out.

What do you guys think?!?

Those are awesome and fit in a way that looks unobtrusive. I have thought about some sort of light upgrade for the hatch, but I had not considered something like that.

Cool deal!

@LJE Have you given any thought to trying to add additional cup holders anywhere? It’s a real pain point for me (read: my wife) on road trips with the kids. Was thinking maybe an extension of your front pocket organizer? Seems like there might be a way to make a small one on the outside of that pocket that doesn’t get in the way too bad

Hey! I actually have a design for this that's mostly finished, hahaha. My only fear is that over time it might wear down/pull out on the door card. I've thought about making something that's an extension of my seat front mount panels, but I think that having it swing away with the door would be ideal.

I'll give it some more thought!

Awesome thanks - I’ll keep an eye out. I don’t want to resort to Amazon nonsense.

I dug this up tonight - don't let the CAD fool you, that center hole is 95mm - that's big enough to fit a Nalgene/hydroflask/etc. Again, that's a lot of potential weight on the door card - right now it's designed to fit over and 'hook' on the inside. Prototype prints worked pretty well, but I got hung up on trying to figure out spring-y retention pieces to secure hold smaller bottles. After the work I did on my 4th gen 4runner cupholder, I think I'd adopt something similar here if there was interest. I might also look at extending the portion that rests on the door to spread the load some more.

It never got in the way of my feet either, so from that standpoint it's totally viable.

That looks great and exactly what I had in mind. This is just my opinion but I think for this application you could go smaller. I think most people would be fine with a secondary cupholder that isn’t big enough to fit a Nalgene, but is more “standard” size and it would put less flex on the door card and be less in the way.

Turn your dark rear tailgate area into daylight! I finished up this project, got the housings listed on the website, and created an extensive install write-up over here.

You can't actually tell that my overhead garage lights are turned off in this photo, haha.

I think this is a great solution - I realize that the Diode Dynamics rock lights aren't cheap and may limit the audience here, but it was important to me to find a USA-made light to integrate with.

The wiring/install guide will walk you through how to install these so they turn on automatically when you open the hatch, but will shutoff automatically with your dome lights 30 minutes later if you leave the hatch open and walk away.

Let me know what you guys think!

That's pretty nifty. Are there any concerns with over-drawing current for the dome light wiring now that you're attaching two additional lights there? I'm not sure what the original dome light bulb drew, or what the LED pods draw, but it seems it might not be a bad idea to trigger a relay off the dome light wiring that would power the pods, but it may be a over-kill for a non-issue.

I don't have any concerns at the moment - the lights are a combined 20 watts, which is ~1.75 amps. I assume that if the fuse hasn't popped, the circuit & wiring is rated for it, haha.

A fellow Landcruiser enthusiast, Seena, was the originator of the 2nd & 3rd row seatbelt replacement panels - he did this awesome video that walks through the features & the install of them! His videography skills definitely outpace my engineering ability I think, haha!

I always thought it was "ART-TIS-SIN Garage" but Seena sounded it out like people from the land of "AR-TEE-JA"? Artee-jians?
You know, I've always thought it was the former myself, but I guess that's really up to @MongooseGA to decide...

I've been showing a lot of love to the 4th Gen 4Runner crowd here recently, but I wanted to throw out a discount code for a product I think is super handy on the 100 series! Today is the last day of the coupon code running, so make sure to go check it out if you're interested!

This is an extender for your rear hatch handle - it started as a customer request that I honestly thought was a little silly, but it turned out to be something that I absolutely love! Makes both opening & closing the upper hatch easier. It's design to transfer the load into the frame of the hatch as you use it, so it's not putting weird stress on your OEM handle that it attaches around.

Use the code "GetAGrip" on the site for $5 off through Wednesday, 3/11/26. Here's the direct link: Rear Hatch Handle Extension for the 100 & 80 Series Landcruiser and LX - https://theartisangarage.com/products/rear-hatch-handle-extension-for-the-100-80-series-landcruiser-and-lx

Third picture shows my normal seated driving position - even with this tall bottle, no interference. This will limit how far forward your seat can be though - gotta get measurements on that.

Other than a couple minor tweaks to clean up the print a little bit, I think it's just about there! This has a ~83mm inner diameter, so it should fit most things.

Thoughts from the crowd?!

Can I make a suggestion!

I see a lot of door pockets, broken. They crack rather easy along top edge, from over stuffing and or impact. If your inner pocket was extended forward. Then cup holder designed to hang on inner pocket. In a way, that takes strain off door pocket. Carrying cup holder weight, and transferring any impact shock to inner back of door pocket.
