Will consider.....

Ha. I was goading....

Wonder the weight savings of the complete new drivetrain versus the 3B/H55/BF1A?

Have manhandled H55s, split cases, Fs and 1FZ blocks. Based on, would say the 1FZ is the heavier engine in any 7X.

Don't know the weight of the 3B or any new components you're swapping, but has to be lighter by a fair margin, you think?

Will lose one of the batteries due to space (I think)
The LC9 is all aluminum
The tranny is lighter as well, I think, but you've got the adapter to add in
I seem to recall an estimate of around 200 lbs less weight than the 3B/H55 combination. Given the rig is around 4,000 lbs to start with, that's a pretty good reduction

Good thing about 73/74s in general is that the center of gravity is fairly low given FRP top and weenie windshield. With my low-rider suspension and 31" Toyos, I think it will be relatively well balanced.

One of our 7X brethren has suggested a rev limiter, while another wants a burn-out video. Not likely....

Ok, we'll settle for GoPro video as you blow by unsuspecting 'vettes on your favorite twisty mountain road :hillbilly:

Add me to that list :grinpimp:. You are doing what I have been thinking about for ages. I'm excited to see the outcome.

Best stealth rig I ever had was a 1979 GMC diesel pick up. I swapped out the diesel for a 455 cid Olds (same basic block - a drop-in).

Geared very high (low numeric) with an automatic, it was a little slow off the line but made up for the gearing quickly. Porsches didn't know what to make of getting passed.

No twisty roads for the 73, I think.

If I survive the first month, will come visit so you can test drive.

I thought you were not a fan of that motor?

Admittedly it is not a Mopar 6.1 but a V8 is a V8 and nothing sounds better than a healthy V8 exhaust, nothing.

Besides you can buy parts for that thing at 3 in the morning at Walmart....

A V8 is a V8

Having made the obligatory 1,200 mile round trip in Mrs. D's GX460, most at speeds above 80mph, have to agree....regardless that the UR isn't as impressive as the the previous GXs 2UZ.

The benefits of stomping on it at 85mph and feeling the immediate response, to pass a Texan going 65mph in the passing lane (that's that thar left lane for y'all south of the Red River), all while averaging 15.2mpg was enjoyable.

Had me pondering a few things....

Besides you can buy parts for that thing at 3 in the morning at Walmart....

Quoted, for posterity. :)

Other end.....

Unpacking, cleaning, etc. some bits that have been acquired through the kindness / generosity of strangers.

Soon to take their rightful places on the 73.

Here's an example - thanks Alberto!

I still prefer ..... clickity - clack, clickity clack, clickity clack ..... ;)
Going 0-60 quickly is overrated....
Heck, just going 60 is overrated.

And I prefer aircraft built before I was born, but sometimes I get in a hurry!

My first trip by air consisted of a B720 (Pan Am), a Consolidated PBY and a Grumman Albatross :bounce::bounce2:

Gas or diesel?

A generally positive MUD response to the Burrito benzine withdrawal program currently under way. As some of you know, I had option of 1 HD-FTE or 5.3 Vortec. I went with the GM crate motor. Some additional background/justification:

1 - I expect fuel costs to be about a wash, given diesel price differential (more) and Vortec fuel economy (less). Vortec will be in high teens, while 1HD-FTE would have been in the 20s.

2 - Install costs for the 1 HD-FTE were quite a bit higher (electronics, security harness, high flow exhaust, intercooler).

3 - Space was kind of tight in the little 73 for the intercooler required for full performance from the diesel.

4 - Performance of the two motors is comparable as shown below - virtually identical output at 2,000 RPMs, but the V8 has more torque and another 200+ hp by the time it hits redline.

The safety issues raised should not apply as long as the operator (me) keeps his foot out of it. With the automatic, the Vortec should be reasonably smooth.

Note on Vortec dyno at left below. The eRod/LC9 was rated at 315 hp at its release several years ago, but GM has subsequently upped the rated power output to 326 hp. This dyno chart reflects the lower power rating.

Scared me for a minute. When I saw those downward curves, I thought you had somehow gotten ahold of my college transcripts.

Cannot speak to your academic history, but the 1HD-FTE only "falls off" only after some very fine performance. Unfortunately, it is not a "clickity-clack" diesel, but a "woompata-whirr" diesel...

I can hear a neighbors Dodge Cummings truck leaving the neighborhood every morning. The noise is one of the benefits of a diesel. :hillbilly:

You would enjoy our UPS guy...
