OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW...

Torfab crew de-installed the 3B, with the help of a "real" fork lift (Toyota, of course).

To be replaced with one of the shiny things at bottom.

So that's what a clean 3B complete with exhaust heat shield looks like!

I cannot wait to see more of this Ward.

Chris -
Not discussed in thread until now, thanks for asking. We will use an AA/Marks kit behind the 4L65E tied to an OEM TC - no rearrangement of diff.

With the longer trans and added bits, it may make for a short rear driveshaft. Reduced range of articulation may limit aggressive use of the rig for trail use, but it is an acceptable trade-off.

The 3B, H55 and (perhaps) old TC will depart for the Eastern Zone next week or so.

EDIT
PS - Please remember that when it comes to tech, I am frequently only half right.....
;)

Not a great photo due to blinding Seattle sunshine.

A little narrow but long enough for Tor crew to give Vortec a new home

Way cool and moving right along I might add. When you paint the truck be sure to use high-temp paint so it doesn't blister when you FLY down the hiway......:hillbilly:

Unlike my 0-60 time, his won't be measured in hours.

Because it can doesn't necessarily mean I will... :)

That's the same hog wash I told my dad when I borrowed his pickup as a kid. As soon as I was far enough down the road, I would let her rip. :)

Ward, I'm happy to hear you're reconnecting with your inner V8. But we need pics of Tor working his magic!

PS this thread should be retitled...Vortec or bust?

Wish I could comply but Tor apparently does his best work by the light of a full moon, surrounded by dancing elf maidens. My contribution consists of re watching episodes of "Vikings"

Kind of like the "OEM or bust" title, to keep me humble. I just didn't have what it takes to stay pure.

WILL IT FIT?

Not the Vortec, the 3B......on a pallet......We are shipping the combined engine/trans/TC to its new home in the 13th Colony and at 60 inches, it just doesn't fit on a 48" pallet. Need to find a 4x6.

Interestingly, the combined length of the Vortec/4L65E/AA adapter/TC is just a couple inches longer than the old drivetrain, so we should be in good shape for the rear driveline length (not too short). Also, there appears to be plenty of room between the front of the Vortec fan and the radiator.

Early indications are that non-GM exhaust manifolds (Hooker block-huggers) will likely be required to clear the frame rails.

The Torfab crew will go to any lengths to create exciting new solutions for Toyota owners, as Prius owner below can readily attest.

The red neck solution would involve duct tape and wood shims and perhaps a couple of plastic bags for good measure.
