Lou also got a fresh OEM Bumper. Too many good sales going on awhile back... 25% off, free shipping, no sales tax, etc. Every carriage bolt had to be cut off. Fun grinder work.

Had a customer pick up his 62 early morning... we convoyed to the Cruiser meet in FTW. She spent the last month or so with me getting a long list of work done. Welcome to cruiser ownership Lance!

This was the first time showing Lou off at a cruiser gig. Lots of kind words shared from a great group of guys and gals. Very humbled. And thanks for putting the event together Neil!

The wife and baby are becoming fans of Lou. The baby loves the 2F harmonics... it's the only cruiser she peacefully rides in. Puts her right to sleep.

also... H55 is on the way. I plan to swap her in ASAP with cooler weather approaching. The additional control and cruising ability will be big help at ranch. Low first will a blast when it comes time sneak up on some hogs.

Got results back from Blackstone. Not much value added due to little mileage and run time on the oil.

While waiting on the lab results, I did some testing of my own.

First test was top end performance. Wow. She surpassed expectations. She pulls hard to 85MPH... speedo pegs out, and continues to pull equally hard to 95 / 100MPH. She had more, but I backed off due to RPMs. Test passed.

Next was endurance testing. Drove 8+ hours to Oklahoma to do some camping with the family. She did not skip a beat. Test #2 passed.

She has earned her upcoming upgrades. An H55, oil pan, T-case goodies, etc.

Lou has received a factory fresh fuel tank due to recall. This was a very difficult process, as the dealer tried to wiggle their way out of the job any chance they had. Had to get corporate involved to make it happen. About 6 months of back and forth. I had all associated fuel tank parts on hand for them to add in at time of the job. Fuel neck isolator, fuel neck screws, fuel neck grommet, fuel level gauge, etc.

The old tank they removed was in fantastic condition. No corrosion and the fuel gauge was in excellent condition. My theory is lou was getting ethanol free gas due to her being at a lake house. I dumped Biobore-EB stabilizer in the tank about 7 years ago too.

Lou has been parked in the garage for the last 3 or 4 weeks. She Is getting lots of good upgrades.

Main upgrade is H55 is going in. At the same time, she his getting a Fresh clutch, flywheel, ring gear, oil pan gasket, rear main seal, etc

T-case is also getting a refresh as well. Case is getting vapor honed, upgraded long spline gears, TSB springs, upgraded breather tube, etc

And for the big reveal... Bearing health is good. I am amazed at the condition. Some discoloration, but overall solid for being starved of oil due to the bypass oil filter failure. Motor will be left as in and driven.

@crtx That's a clean looking H42! I guess most everything on Lou was in good shape though.

Interior of Lou is also getting refreshed. Stripped, cleaned, sound proofed, carpeted, and audio upgrade.

For sound proofing: Butyl for base, thermal/sound barrier over the top, then mass loaded vinyl, then the carpet. This combo has proven to be excellent combo on other personal and customer vehicles.

Next up is the doors and speakers. Vapor barriers redone and then doors sound proofed. New Polk MM1 Speakers going in. @TheNeek speaker spacers with Cruiser Cult speaker covers. All new front wiring. Cleaned up with fresh wires, wrapped with Tessa cloth tape, then Techflex f6, then wrapped again with Tessa tape. This should help keep the wiring protected for many years to come.

With interior stripped, 3 jelly bean sized rust spots were found. These will be treated, top coated with steelit paint, and welded.

Toyota keeps the old tanks. When I had mine replaced I asked for the old back as it was still good. Answer was no due to liability.

The head of the service department at my local dealership said they have to destroy the tank - usually cutting it up - and send proof to Toyota in order for the department to get reimbursed for the warranty work. The guy tried to save it for me but couldn’t.

Same. Even my inside guy motivated with a Benjamin was unable to save my old fuel tank from the corporate reimbursement world.
