Me neither! I was totally shocked.

When does anything for $12 actually work, except 4 bottles of orange Gatorade?

Well, my OCD got foiled. Despite trying like hell to bang the last bolt holding it together, I couldn’t get it to budge. So 95% better is going to have to be not just good, but good enough. Just like Krusty the Clown says.

Reassembly was swift.

I have waited a long time to put these parts together. It’s pretty cool that this ignition switch is from 2007.

Calling it a night, the coyotes are howling outside the shop, and the corgi is threatening to bolt off into the night to play….

Although, technically, I’m not done. Still waiting on the yield (break down, in Toyota parlance) bolt to get here.

Breakaway bolt arrived and boy was that satisfying. I’m not kidding.

Small but annoying update. I knew that I had bought the correct subtank switch years ago. I couldn’t find it, ordered another, and then found my original yesterday.

The design also switches over at 7/2009.

Pre-7/09 (rectangular outer bezel):

84560-60070

Post-7/09 (slightly rounded shape, no bezel):

84560-60050

Old versus new, side-by-side. Just different enough to be incompatible, though their plugs are totally different also.

I’ve got to say, Cruiserparts has really upped their game recently. Brand new clutch pedal assembly for $75… It is completely pristine and perfect. No rust mitigation required here.

Got the steering column in. Yaaaay.

My rod is too short. Faasaaaaccccck.

I hate it when my rod is too short to fit in the hole.

Cleaned up the brake booster. Moderately ok taping job.

I’ll explore the steering column fiasco next time.

@2fpower it’s a hybrid, 70 and 80 series welded up. It fit when we assembled it the first time!

Perhaps the body is 1” back on the body mounts? I ran out of time to explore yesterday.

Today it took 2 hours, and a nearly infinite amount of curse words to put in one clutch pedal, one bolt, and two nuts. That Spectrum sludge is absolutely horrible to get off of threads. And as luck would have it, the only piece of my 48 thread rethreading set that I missing is the M8 die…but I have a metric master set on order.

Faaaaack.

Hello,

Be careful when tightening those flange nuts. They have a nasty habit of breaking at the flange lip when you use a little too much force.

That new clutch pedal is so sexy. I almost went your route in my manual trans conversion. However, I decided that it would require too much modification in my 1992. You're going to LOVE that pedal feel.

@ATL Cruiser oh I already do…the HDJ74 got a new style clutch/brake when it was LHD swapped. It’s a delight.

So after a long pause, I’m back to work on the single cab. The goal will be to get this one running and then get to the double cab.

Long time readers of this thread will recall that my steering column has always been canted just a little bit towards the passenger side. I modified a bracket to make it work. but I was always wondering if I just had the wrong bracket, the wrong column or something else…

I picked up another nice, clean column bracket from a later 79 from @simonliew (thank you!). I took the damn dash apart for about the 19th time last night, bolted in the bracket… And the farking thing is still off! I guess I’m taking the whole thing apart at least one more time.

The stupid M6x1.0 Timmerman nuts for the dash top to cowl are going to be the death of me. I had to break out my top shelf special Toyota 10 mm socket driver. I swear it has magical powers. It got all of those little farkers to seat on the first try.
