Yeah, I have new-itis. I’m pretty much trying to use all new fasteners if available.
Got the FTE stickers in the mail from @roma042987 today. I’ll mail one off to Joey tomorrow to convert to a 1HDFT sticker. I have located an online sticker shop and plan on printing 25 of them in a first run.

DUDE. Maybe I just need to mail it to you. This FT motor is going into the as-of-yet nameless 79.

Back at it, painting brackets. I’m using Chassis Saver satin black; I liked what @roma042987 was doing so I’m giving it a shot.

Galen I see powder coating in your future. I think my set up was less than $200. You'll never paint small parts again after you get started. The only semi expensive thing is a sand blast cabinet. It's faster than painting and waiting on parts to dry. I've actually made brackets, blasted, powdered, and bolted on all in one evening. You can't do that with paint.
I do like that chassis saver paint though it sticks better than anything else I've seen yet. Also I may have a couple of your studs, that box has a few non 12ht parts

Roma, yeah, there are a lot of additions I would like to make to the shop. In due time...
I have a real question for the group: moving on to the oil cooler.
The new cooler housing has 3 tight plugs where the original one has threaded caps. Do I need to knock out the tight plugs? From the inside of the housing it does not appear that those holes are threaded. The FSM only mentions the relief and check valves.

Yours an FTE?
Freeze plugs are not threaded, probably good to leave them alone. I would pull all the threaded plugs, one is a valve, clean and put new crush washers on them.
Other than that just make sure the cooler is really clean, took a lot to get the cooler clean on the FT I am doing.
Edit: strange the new cover has freeze plugs. Not seen that before which is why I ask if it is FTE.
Separate that cooler and soak it in carb cleaner. It’s bound to be pretty dirty.

Ian, 17022 is the superseded part number that comes up for the FT motor. Weird that it has freeze plugs and not drain plugs.
I am taking an amateur's look at the oil cooler cover variations. There are a lot and I can't readily discern differences.
There are several variations: 15721-17010 listed for 1HZ from 1/90-roughly till 2000. Still available.
15721-17011 superseded, lists to 17012.
15721-17012 for 1HZ 1/09-8/16, currently available on Partsouq. Can't tell from pics if it uses freeze plugs or not.
17012 is the part number for the 1HDFTE.
15721-17020, which is visually identical to 17010, listed for 8/92-5/97.
15721-17021 unavailable, no pictures, listed for 5/97-1/98.

At some point the oil cooler covers have 4 long bolts instead of 2. I can't tell which one those are from the diagrams or pictures.
I went back and ordered a 17020 on @Onur 's recommendation.
The FTE motors have a cute little oil catch pan that mounts below the oil filter to catch oil when changing filters. I grabbed one. 15674-17010
I'm sure this is splitting hairs, but I don't want to blow a freeze plug and blow all my oil and or coolant.

I wonder if that pan will work with 1HZ? It is annoying to see all that oil trickle down when changing the filter.

Lots to post about today. I got a box from Japan with fun stuff.
Starting with the brake booster. The NOS mine truck 70 series booster and an 80 series booster do not fit with the firewall spacer, as expected. The mounting studs are too short. I did however get the two gaskets and the clevis. I am sure that I could lengthen the studs and the pushrod, but I’m also sure that will be faster and easier to just buy the correct one from Partsouq. Anybody need a 70 series brake booster? It’s up for sale in the classifieds.

I also got the correct bolts for the motor mounts and alternator. Fresh paint and new hardware. Nate approves.

In little pieces, got the correct new bracket to hold up the water bypass pipe. So much nicer than my rattle canned old one.

Happily, the oil cooler itself cleaned up quite nicely.
I then took another look at the oil cooler cover with freeze plugs. Now that I look at it, with freeze plugs, it seems like there are at least three less points of potential leakage. I may just go ahead and run this one. Toyota built it this way for a reason…

Painting more brackets because I forgot to do the injection pump bracket. Trying to figure out where around my place I could put an old oven for powder coating.

This was also fun. I had never used vinegar to clean off rust. Here’s the initial, 24 hours later, and post polishing. I’ll hit them with a little bit of oil to keep them from flash rusting.
I made a double oven into one big oven... really was pretty easy... anyway, I put it on wheels so in the good months, I can wheel it outside to bake and keep the fumes out of the shop. This image is not mine, but I based my design off of this one, so they look identical. WIth the larger size, I can do lots of larger, longer parts, yet with the wheels, I can move it out of the way.

Also, I got an email last night from @lowenbrau. He saw that I was selling the brake booster I had bought from him. Even though it was my fault, and I knew that it might not fit my truck when I ordered it, he offered to exchange it for another booster or even for different parts. Now THAT is excellent customer service, and an example of why I will buy from him again and again in the future.
