I done the cell phone test twice now. Only 2 phones both times on the GB50. They advertise 40 jump starts for the GB50.

if you really can get 40 jump starts or even 20 for that matter, makes me think what we really need is an iPhone app and a set of cables that plugs into the phone. I know, the amps would be the issue, but just think if you could jump start your can with your phone.

I have the NOCO 170 and I have successfully jumped a Powerstroke and a Duramax. Little bastards are really impressive.

Which loops it back to what was said previously, take a class. Especially if you wheel with your kids. You'll be surprised at what you learn. Assuming it's a legit course and not some half assed attempt.
This.

WFR classes by NOLS are generally affordable and incredibly well taught. Anything with a field component beats straight classroom stuff. You can have an ambulance full of gear on site but it won't do you any good if you don't know how to use the equipment.

So I just bought a GB50 after having to jump start my Taco and not having my cables (because my cable stay in the LC). I decided to go with a jump pack instead of another set of cables because, even if I had my cables, there was no one around to give me a jump. I may buy another for the LC but might go bigger. I have not used it to jump start a vehicle yet. I was curious to see how much charge would be consumed by charging cell phones. I was surprised, and a little disappointed to only get two iPhones charged by the GB50. Both phones were totally dead but they sucked the GB50 dry. I'm recharging the GB50 now and will try again. It appeared fully charged when I did my test.

Anyone got some comparison cell phone charging data?
Get a true USB battery pack for more capacity. Battery jumpers are designed for high instantaneous power, not slow draw large MaH charging.

Last I saw Anker 20,000MaH packs were like $40. That’s good for nearly 4 dead iPhones.

6 years since I bought my GB150 and it finally failed on me. I'd gotten so used to it always being 75-100% charged every time I checked.....that I stopped checking. Went on a family campout a couple weeks ago. A fellow camper needed a jump, the 25% light blinked.....and no jump. Went to charge when I got home, will no longer go past 25% light blinking. Even the flashlight goes on and shuts right off....dead dead. Tired AC and Dc charging same result. Guess 6 years sitting in Phoenix AZ hot car eventually took it's toll. Still not a bad lifespan. I left a message for NOCO support, we'll see if they offer any discount or repair option or anything. Warranty is only 1 year

They all eventually die after a few years and several use cycles. I got this one a couple years ago and it has been great. Tons of juice even to start up v8 diesels a couple times I needed to, and a single charge has gone 4-5 jump starts and still showing charge:

Yeah I was surprised this lasted as long as it did. Noco support was helpful, called me back and offered a 25% 1 time use coupon code. I decided to upgrade to one of the X models that have the USB-C in/out for faster charging. Decided to downgrade to a slightly smaller model though:

NOCO Boost X GBX75 2500A

Not bad though, only $187 plus $2.95 shipping with the discount. I know there are cheaper brands that work just fine, I'm just impressed with 120+ degree AZ summers that I still got 5+ years life outta this with it always stored in the truck. We'll see how long this one lasts

I have the same Noco model. Will be 4 years old in Dec. Still holds 100% and never been used for a jump unfortunately. It’s my backup for a backup (dual battery setup).

Funny timing, but my 5 year old GB50 took a dump when trying to help a neighbor last weekend. I am definitely going to go for an X model with USB C.

I personally don’t see why Usbc is such a selling point. When I go to charge mine I generally have hours to let it sit there without needing it.

It’s a convenience thing. One cable type to charge all your devices. Hell, even the new iPhone coming out this month will be switching to USB C.

I had same gb150 model. I checked mine every 6-9mos and would top-off before returning to vehicle. I was disappointed to discover the same 25% light (and failure to take a charge) after checking mine prior to a family trip earlier this year...less than 4 years after purchase. Wife has gb40 (for same amount of time) and it's still holds nearly 100% charge. I switched to Lokithor LiFePO4 model so we'll see...

Any thoughts on keeping these units at less than 100% to help lifespan? And possibly going with a higher capacity model to retain usability?

I was debating going with the higher model GBX155 (4250A), but couldn't stomach the $369 price compared to the GBX75 (2500A) for $249. Interesting thought on keeping it charged less than 100%. Dunno, I'm probably just gonna do the same as I did with my previous model GB150. Just leave at 100%, leave in truck, and see how long it lasts. If I get another 5 years out of it I feel like that's a good lifespan
