yeah! actually thats where I ordered most of my stuff from! And I may eventually order those calipers. I figured I would take mine off and see how they work first - and see what I can get away with. I think the only thing I havent ordered yet for brakes is the brake lines. im looking for extended lines - since I will probably get the lift done sooner rather than later.


I'll have to do the rears at some point as well - and if the front calipers are locked up, ill change em out at the same time. we'll see. more updates to come.

The brake line between the axle and the backing plate won't change with a lift, so don't wait replacing that if they are rough. They are relatively inexpensive for good Japanese brake hoses too:

The front and rear chassis to axle hoses can/do benefit from a longer hose when you lift. We have some OE and/or Japanese hoses we like to use for the 6x Series. The factory length front hose is 11.5", and the rear 12.5"-15" depending on year, so you can often move the rear to front and replace the rear with a longer hose.

excellent info - thank you for that. I somewhat gathered that from some other threads - but its nice to hear it said right out! I try to find stuff in threads before asking about it, but there is a lot of info to come through and some of the older threads mention vendors that no longer exist, or there are better options out now.

I am still looking for tcase to trans bypass hose - I might have to fashion on myself. I havent heard back from shipmag - hope they are doing alright.

update today. carpet and headliner ordered. fuel pump (just in case), couple wiper arms i was missing, and all the stuff for the front knuckle rebuilds (btw dang i really wanted to just buy new calipers but $550 is pricey). luckily i got that parts cleaner. The list of upgrades is getting longer!!

I need a longer todo list somewhere lol. im debating picking up the lift kit as well. Probably overkill for my situation but i was looking at the 2" dobinsons with ims. I could definitely get away with less, but the rebuildability is nice, and I will be driving a lot of fireroads and trails. unsure what to do there - same with wheels and tires, there are just so many options. For wheels, one of mine has like 4 giant weights on it currently - almost sure that it isnt balanced correctly. maybe just a crappy tire - would be a big savings to not need to buy new wheels though.

ive heard mixed reviews from bf goodrich k03's - so considering toyo at3 or the like.

pulled a wasp nest out of one of the vents on the body - that was fun. still diagnosing the stuck hvac cables, I did shake one of them loose - but its stiff. may just take that whole lower dash out so i can pull the insulation material from the firewall. looks like 3m sm400l / sm600l will work for that spot too and already planning on that for the headliner.

plenty to do. this weekend I should be able to pull the tank off and check for rust and whatnot. spare tire is stuck stuck in there. I'll try getting the bolts off for the tire carrier cross member but might just need to cut the chain.

also snapped my first bolt getting the battery tray out hopefully that wasnt foreshadowing... Oh and I found 2 hidden keys!!

IMS shocks with TT parabolics would be great. The Dobinsons leaf packs are imo way too stiff, atleast on my truck

I'm gonna keep arguing with you about that in every thread where it pops up ... I love my Dobinsons leaf springs haha. I pulled leaves out of each pack so maybe that's why it's softer. Maybe we can agree that it's better than the dumptruck-feel of OME (even after pulling leaves).

IMS shocks are nice though, I've been enjoying a pair on the rear axle of my 60.

might pick up another grill and try painting one black - or ill just try with mine.

I tested the waters by covering the chrome with electrical tape. I liked the look and the take stayed for years before yet another application of electrical tape. Stupid easy to do and reverse and closely resembles a plasti-dipped finish

My problem is the super light front end (aluminum block ls, etc). I just can’t pull any more leaves

Ooooo - quick update. I found an absolute steal for some parts. $100 for a bunch of stuff. the hangup is - ive got to take it all. but i mean in looks like its in decent shape. seats dash hatch etc, think im going to do it if my wife is okay with it - may have some parts to resell to help fund the project though. More updates later.

i hate to say it - but its too much, hood, 3 doors, tore apart hvac system etc just so much stuff i have no where to store. feel like id end up in the same spot as this guy. didnt take it. However, vac lines came in from hps. Dang these things are nice!!

Alright - New carpet In, Radiator in, and some SOR vinyl grey seats I picked up from a gent on fb marketplace ($300 for those), the seats are way better! I think he had gotten the foam redone and whatnot. They arent the right color but im pleased with it.
When i was pulling the carpet out I had to cut off the flexible hoses that connect the rear heater to the rest of the system. May as well try and fix that rear heater while im here... Seems like the lever to choose your heat is froze up. Im a bit worried about this one, seems like a lot of people just bypass this (and i might too - still havent fired up the truck after carb replacement). But after deflating the spare tire i was able to get the rear tank drained and filled up with approx 5 gallons of good gas.


my shortlist right now, new seat bolts for passenger side front seat (what was in there before was just wrong and i dont want to talk about it, pita to get out).
the heater hoses for rear heater. Will probably take that apart tomorrow.

Still waiting on an order from cruicercorps - headliner and whatnot, couple spare parts. I got in all the stuff i need for front axle rebuild, ill get to that after i verify she's running well. Carpet came before all that stuff so, it went in.

also added the wiper mechanisms to both the passenger side and the rear. the rear is missing the spray head, but i have an extra one for the front i believe. wonder if i can mount that decently.

Re your overfilled transmission, it may be the seal on the output shaft. The good news is there’s an inexpensive “fix.” Or maybe it’s just overfilled. Agreed on this. And if @archatom you chose to go the route that thread will tell you. I’ve got one of those hoses that will help keep the fluid equalized between the two. I’d be happy to ship it to you. It was sent to me when my transmission was being overfilled by @mwebfj60…. I’d be happy to pass it on.

bought the truck in 24' got around to fixing it up this summer where most of the posts are from. still need that bit. are you talking about the t-case to transmission bypass hose? because i still have not gotten to that and id really like to do the suspension and axle work before i break into those bits. Let me know!

couple updates... Got everything put back together for a test, carb is running! however idle is still set pretty high, looks like one of the adjustment screws on the back (toward the driver seat) might not have a bottom plate? unsure. havent really gone through much investigation there, and i didnt follow the directions out there yet.

however, i did find this old toyota spare tire kit and the jack, and after 2 weeks of spraying the chains it did finally come loose. big win there, Radiator seems to be doing its job and even at high idle for 20mins or so temps stayed good. Currently have bypassed the rear heater while I get some of those components unstuck.

side note about the bag, zipper did take some working, but actually functions pretty decently now. I was pleased about that.

on top of that, i got some side markers replace. and while i had the dash out I found a spare led for the speedo - didnt realize im going to need basically all new bulbs there. annoying, but I had better order those.
Still waiting on my cruisercorp order.

I think next up is rebuilding those front axles and rear brake work while im getting the carb figured out.

alright i might be diagnosing this wrong but i think this is supposed to be an open hose? If im diagnosing this right this is the HAC, and is supposed to have a open line downward?

about a dozen more vacuum lines replaced tonight, and I ordered the radio!

Don't forget to pop the bottom off the HAC and replace the filter material. Walk the HVAC aisles at Home Depot and find something similar, then cut to size.
