Kurt, not to hijack but the odds of this working on a GX are slim and none, or a comparable kit? Just wondering. Thx!

Correct Andre, I believe that the GX do not have a hub and spindle but rather a unit bearing in the front end, so you wouldn't be able to bolt on the hubs.

Sorry to continue the hijack... but...

There's actually a couple different kits out there that convert the 2nd/3rd Gen Tacoma, FJC, and 4Runner to manual hubs. The old school manual-hub hub-body from the 1st Gen Tacoma fits right into the unit bearings on the newer 120/150-platform trucks. The deal is, you then can use either the same manual-hub 1st Gen Tacoma outer/bell end of the CV and a custom shaft with new appropriate splines, or a new manual-hub outer/bell end of the CV with appropriate splines for the original 2nd/3rd Gen Tacoma shaft. The GX shares identical front axle to the 2nd/3rd Gen Tacoma so these kits would fit right up to a GX.

*AND* then you need a part-time case. The GX (and the V8 4Runner) are full-time 4WD with center locking torsen diff, and there is currently no center spool option to swap in that I've heard of. *However*, GX, Tacoma, FJC, 4Runner, 1G Tundra, 1G Sequoia, LC100, Hilux, and LC Prado share transmissions and motors across them and if one wanted to mess around getting a part-time case into a GX470 the part-time case from a part-time 4WD FJ Cruiser with auto trans would bolt right up. The interior console stuff and computer stuff is another story, but i feel could be worked out if one really wanted it. 😎 (or maybe a manual trans behind the V8 in a GX....but thats another conversation all-together! o_O )

We prob should start a new thread though if we wanted to keep talking about the GX... :p

Zero percent this kit will work but it’s totally possible on the GX. Fern and I worked out the rough details to do it on a GX470

First batch of kits have shipped!

Is it possible to just install the just the Aisin hubs without modifying the transfer case? I don't want to lose non 50/50 AWD, but it would be nice to lock the center diff and have pseudo 2wd every once in a while or in the Summer. I understand that the drive train would still be spinning the front bits, but it wouldn't be turning the wheels/tires. That is where my weight is. Would/could this damage the transfer case?

Totally possible. However at this time we are only selling the fhe hubs in complete kits until we get through the vacuum of demand. At some point we’ll offer the hubs loose.

My kit comes in Tuesday I will post some pics of the parts once arrived.

Skip the parts pics, let’s see some installed pics and 2WD burnouts :D

I have been running mine in this configuration for almost a year testing the some of the custom hub parts. you would be just fine.

make sure the burn-outs are Arab scale, you might get heckled...

70 mph into a reverse entry like a drifter....not sure a NA 2UZ on stock gears and 35s is even capable of a burnout on pavement even in 2wd :p

Not with that attitude it's not. 100 in nuetral, RPM's @ 4500, foot hard in the brake, drop it into drive. They will burnout :D

would this work with aftermarket CV axles? Reason I'm asking is because mine have different C-Clip on them, much thinner than OEM.

If by "they" you mean my transmission then yes you are right.

yes, this should work with your aftermarket CV's if they mate properly with the factory drive flanges. With the 100 series the clip thickness can vary a little bit. there is actually 5? different clip thicknesses possibilities that change due to tolerance stack up.

Cruiser outfitters stocks a c-clip kit that you would need if your current clips are too thick/thin.

Yes, it should. The kit includes a 6-pack of various thickness clips.

The c-clip kit ships with the part-time kit
