I really like the look without any tint on the rear windows. I wish that was an option for the USA market. I know it wouldn't be very popular, but I really liked my last F250 that was a fleet model with untinted rear windows. Feels a lot more open and better visibility in low light conditions.
Me too. One of my 80s is tinted, the other not. But for the hottest brightest summer desert conditions, I prefer the untinted greenhouse. It’s bright and airy rather than cavelike.

Mg wife’s expedition has clear UV tint on all the windows. Makes such a huge difference!

I’d also prefer untinted. Give me the ability to add what level of tint I want!

The more I see the LC the more I prefer it over the GX (exterior wise).

The Land Cruiser is genuinely really very nice to look at. I was worried about the rear being oddly proportioned but the back is almost perfect.

The GX design will look more dated down the line when other lexus models get more newer design languages.. though I guess they could still implement those in future facelifts.

Lc exterior
Gx engine
Interior both are OK.

Since most of the body is the same, It seems that it could be possible to do a LC250 front clip and emblem conversion on a GX550, much like some people who have done Prado conversions to a GX460. The wiring/CANBUS gremlins would need to be worked out of and it seems like this would need to be done well out of the warranty period.

I actually like the GX styling, though I'll need to see both in person at some point to make my final decision.

Much prefer the staid LC to the macho GX exterior styling (feels a bit cartoonish to me), and prefer the 250’s simpler interior. In fact, the 250 is only US market LC whose exterior styling I’ve really liked upon release.

Can’t get over the GX’s terrible efficiency and lackluster range. Swing and a miss. Not worth the marginal power gains over the hybrid.

Looks to be on some in the pics above if zooming in. Wonder if it’s a diesel vs non diesel thing like the FJ60 vs HJ60, but the UK diesel didn’t have it.

**Or maybe they haven’t told us some stuff and it’s a door for the plug in charger haha**

Kurt posted a photo earlier of a LC-250 with a high air intake. That’s a logical place to have a vent that could be removed to access an air intake. While it was on the right side of the vehicle it would be logical to have some symmetry.

Terrible efficiency and lackluster range are a Toyota SUV hallmark :). Look at an 80, 100, or 200. The power gains may not be big, but the towing gains are more than substantial. If it's getting better MPG than my old 470 (which it is) and can tow 9K pounds instead of 6,500 (which it can), I personally see that as progress, as long as the reliability is there (only time will tell).

Outside of towing....I agree it would be hard to pass up the 250's MPG (if it actually is 27 mpg). We really love the MPG of our hybrid Toyota.

At the moment I'm leaning towards the GX, but that is without having driven either of them or really started thinking about spending $80k. Driving both may change my mind.

I certainly share your disappointment with the GX's fuel economy. But I think I may significantly prefer the GX's added refinement.

I don’t tow, but we’ve owned and driven 80s since 1991, so I’m painfully aware of Toyota’s hallmark efficiency and range failures in the US market (and I’m glad to see them finally address that with the 250). Notably, if I’m remembering correctly, the 250 tows a half ton more than the 80.

One thing annoying about the lc300 vs lc200
Is they reduced fuel capacity size by almost 30 litres.
So 110L vs 138L
I am talking about models with subtank.
Not gonna lie that's noticeable.

I know the US market doesn't get the factory subtank but yeah just something worth mentioning.

I think the j250 with subtank will also be 110L which is also considerably smaller than a J150 with a subtank (150L)

NA 80-series towing - 5000lbs
NA 250-series towing - 6000lbs

NA no subtanks. There are very few places you need to go more than a couple miles between fuel sources.

I think all of us moving from an 80 to a 250 are really excited. Those currently in 200's are reluctant. For me as an 80 owner this new truck offers nearly everything I want to justify a purchase. Maybe I'm Toyota's target for a change. Pricing seems to reflect it. And Toyota wants the 200 owner to buy a Sequoia or LX600 next time. After all, the 200 owners here on MUD probably do not reflect that owner group as a whole nationally. Most 200's probably start out the day in the school drop off lane followed by Starbucks, a trip the salon, grocery store and mall before the 3pm return to school. (there is a parade of 200's in front of every school here) That's not a jab at all of you with 200's. Lets just face the fact the the first owner of most LandCruisers don't wheel them. (In NA)

Maybe it’s been mentioned, but originally seeing the GX550 fuel mileage, I had assumed that was for an overtrail model, so hypothetically the other versions with smaller street tires could do a little better. Which does make the mileage fairly “decent” with 33s and more clearance. On the flip side, if that mileage is for the street tire versions and the overtrail ones with larger all terrains lose fuel efficiency, the range is even worse and probably no better than my GX460 with mods and 33s

I question how realistic the 9k lb tow capacity is when the range with that trailer is ~100 miles. There are plenty of places in the USA interstate highway system that it really can't make it between without extra fuel cans along. Hard to see that being popular for people spending $$ on the GX. I love the capacity, but doubt it has much real world utility as far as actually towing heavy stuff because of range issues. I do think it has value in the sense of - it'll tow 6k lbs a lot more comfortably than the LC250.

With a 21 gal tank and 10 mpg towing it would be 210 miles :). I usually fill up around 200-250 miles towing with my 470, but it's not on E either.

I'd never suggest towing 9K with it, but with that rating it could likely handle a 5-6K loaded trailer with ease. It will be interesting to see the towing mpg. Hopefully its double-digits with a 5-6K camper.

OH geez...I sincerely hope no one tries to two 9k pounds! That just sounds like an accident in waiting.

Hey @Corbet , you forgot the local Starbucks drive through. I mean how else are these going to get any rim rash!?!

My apologies, you’re spot on and I’ve edited my post above for better accuracy.

I get 10MPG towing with my 80, I don’t have any issue running out of fuel. I don’t see the 550’s range dropping to 100 miles even with 9K trailer. I wouldn’t want to tow 9K in a vehicle this size without every helper possible like a weight distributing hitch and probably airbags. But towing in Colorado is different than towing in Florida.

I'd never tow 9K with it, even in Flordia :). There just isn't enough wheelbase.

The big detraction for towing a full-sized camper with a 120/150 is the power (or lack thereof) and tendency for the trans to get much too hot. Hopefully with nearly 500 ft/lbs and a much better torque curve than the V8, that's rectified for the 550. No clue on the trans temps; I'm not sure what kind of cooler this does or doesn't' have.

One thing I'm surprised about is the J250 doesn't use more aluminum body panels like the J300.
The weight of the 250 in some trims is comparable to the LC300 if not even exceeding the base 300.

Reckon similar usage of aluminum like 300 would have helped knock off some pounds.
