I went back out after lunch and a little time with Red and yanked off the front bumper as well. Not only will I be cleaning, treating and painting behind the bumpers, they will be going to powder to get the proper pewter color. They are both in great shape for pig bumpers. Rear has one dent in a cap and the front looks great from eye level but man, someone really did a number on the bottom of it. This steel is THICK and I can’t imagine how they did it.

I hooked it between two Trees and managed to get it mostly straight again with my little portable warn

Also, I fished another carcass out of the frame

I considered pulling it out into the yard for an undercarriage pressure wash but it’s still too cold for this old man so I decided to dive into this mess of a job

It’s always a good sign when none of the hub nuts are chipped with a Chisel and the balls are nice and shiny with no pits

Finally, this is a hack I saw on line the other day. Absolutely brilliant. All my hubs are beat to hell from me smacking them with hammers.

Interesting, field-welded receiver
You know, I think a lot of us have built stuff back in the day like that. You used what you had and there was no internet telling us how funky we were for doing it that way. It still worked in the end, right.
Back in the day?
I'm still going, I don't need the internet to tell me I'm doing it wrong that's what my wife is for.

Not judging, just making an observation.

Spent a while cleaning parts

Best time to make way for some eye/eye shocks is while the knuckle is off. Busted out the pressure washer inside so I can fully prep this fender area while it’s all open. Wuhon hot knife made it go away

That was a LOT of grinding even after the plasma work. I tried to go at it with my 9” but I’m too old
For that thing

Not sure why the knuckle had an extra claw washer in the mix. That seems very odd.

Thanks @under_psi for burning in this tower for me so I can button this thing up again.

Long but successful day.

May not have explained why the new shock tower but may have. Anyway, the Limo is getting a FJ60 power steering so you have to relocate the driver shock tower with the manual box and the Ford towers are the easy way. Gotta match the shocks. This mod also allows me to run the same 4 shocks on all 4 corners.

Took everything that needed a fresh coat of powder down to the masters at Powder Keg today. This stuff will pop so nicely when they are done.

Got home to this bit of beautiful bling. Leather, heated ..... dayum. I hate the ones I bought for my Pig. I may have to get some of these. They look way better

That's the same ones I have in my 55, the bolster on my side has already worn out. I'm going to have the piece replaced and add some type of cloth in the center. All leather seats get real hot and sticky in the Summer.
Thankfully it doesn't get hot in Houston... at least during Cruiser season. 🥵

We found out the hard way while traveling in the Summer and my wife wearing shorts, she has to put down a towel so her legs don't stick to the leather. The a/c doesn't cool it down that much. I'm putting in some cloth centers to get some air circulating through the seat and adding a second a/c unit in the back.

Cruiser season is November-March. :)

Sorry if I sounded discouraging that wasn't my intension. I wanted you to know that all leather and Landcruiser a/c doesn't mix well in the Summer. They're nice seats, that's not in question, just not sure why my left side bolster wore out so quick though. I love the smell of the leather, too. :)

It's all good. I lived in Minnesota before moving to Houston, so pretty much everything sucks from April-October, A/C or not. My wife is Kuwaiti, so the heat doesn't bother her (too much). My last visit to Kuwait we hit 126* F, but it was a dry heat. lol.

if it's anything like the Corbeau's that I have in my 40, it's because I don't sit down in the seat so much as I slide in and out of it.

(Yes, it's dirty as hell. That's 7 years accumulation while sitting in Las Vegas 2011 - 2018.)

One of the reasons for the place in Colorado is that it's too damn hot in Texas during 'summer'.

Started in in this nasty bastard. This side was way worse and I did not have the benefit of an overnight soak in the Zepp purple to break it down as good.

Had to bust out the pressure washer inside again. I really should have put a drain in the floor ..... you can see daylight through the fender on the top. I got everything seam sealed up. Another coat of rust converter and let it sit

@under_psi came back and burned in the floor patch and fixed my welder. It’s been giving us fits and we think it’s fixed. There may have been some thread tape in the gas line.

All the bearings are packed and races are in the hub. Paint and assembly in one afternoon is a bad plan so I left it all to cure. Should have it buttoned up pretty quick now. All the hard stuff is done

You did NOT just say that... you are now doomed.

On this front axle......holy hell not the Cruiser.

I am dumping Kroil on the suspension components like it cost $2 a can
