Nolen, I've been worried about the receiver hitch acting as a plow hanging down below the bumper. When Roadstr6 posted pictures of Bucky with it's receiver in the bumper, thought I'd ask your opinion on doing something like that on the Limo. I'd hate to see what one good drag would do to that bumper and rear crossmember.
I can't answer your general question, but the Limo is going to see gravel roads at worst. It is going to be my (well, @shayahealth) overland rig. We have my FJ40 & FJ45 to do anything more than go on improved trails.

What color is my 40? @wngrog calls it purple.

Gotcha, didn't know if you were planning any pig parties with it, I think that last SSS we all dragged bottom.

Well, 2.5” ARB suspension is on order. It will be same size as the Worthog. We measured both the Limo and Worthog on Saturday, and with the tired factory springs on the Limo it will actually go up 5”, so that should help quite a bit

Here's what Scrap was referencing. I "frenched" the receiver into Bucky's rear bumper to make it more snag free. Mine is not a true recovery point, nor is it heavy duty. Only attached to the rear cross member and bumper. I pull a small utility trailer with it. It carries my bikes without issue.

Mine has that same thing hanging down as part of the 4Plus swingout. I’m kinda lame but it’s never hit anything

Mine hangs down below the crossbar. I call it my "rear slider" and it gets used more often than I like. I am going to have the receiver moved up into the center of the crossbar on my frame mounted hitch.

The PO on mine left a welded piece of angle iron welded across behind the brace - I am bolting my bumper to it, but something similar could be added to the 'frenched' designs above for additional strength too.. Whole design will be rethought though if I ever get around to adding a longer range tank to it.

As a devils advocate here.
To move it up you have to cut a hole in the bumper and the crossmember.
If you bend it so bad it messes up your bumper then you have a bent crossmember and bumper without a hole in it :)

I'm just over concerned about that rear crossmember and frame. It is a weak spot that is prone to rust and with the added weight of a trailer, etc. could be an unhappy ending on a trip.

With it up in the bumper at least you have a shot at sliding over something rather than digging in the hitch like an anchor. I would advocate adding some stiffener to the crossmember at the least if towing. If not towing, I'd remove the hitch.

I guess I’ve gotten lucky. My little M416 has been all over with my setup.

Same with my 40 which is the same setup. 4 bolts in the frame.....

On another note, the RetroRadio is here. Theee look great in those old trucks

Can I have dibs on the stock springs? They would work well on my spring-over on the '73 FJ40 with a leaf removed. My '65 had those and was sweet!

I’ll keep em out of the dump. Rear only or all?

All. I had used the rears with the leaf removed on the front of the Beater, I forget if I had the same thing holding up the rear. Then I ripped all that out and installed coils off a Caravan. It's been a while... Just keeping my options open. This new build is still in complete disassembly.

Hauled 3 weeks of Limo back to the dump. There was some serious memories in that trailer. All those birf grease rags got quite the fire going

I decided I’d pull the old radio. Simple enough right? Holy hell I think they built the dash around this monster.

Then I got the heater out. The dash firewall pad is in great shape. I’ll reinstall that after Lizard Skin.

Mike is looking into AC options now.
