I have received order #D90 just to keep ya'll updated if you are close to that #

My drawers are coming in soon and I was curious peoples thoughts on sealing the wood. I do not intend to stain them, but I do want to carpet the top, the wings, and maybe even the faces of the drawers. Will they need to be sealed? I was thinking about a clear sealant, but wondering if this is even necessary?

I just completed building mine and decided to line the inside of the drawers and top of the assembly + wings with a product from www.seadek.com. They sell sheets and come with 3M backed adhesive. It's marine grade foam walking surface so I'll assume they are fairly durable. The "small" sheet almost fits perfectly in the drawers. Width is perfect and length is about 1/4" short, but you might be able to get it perfect with a little stretch. I had some left over stain from my fence project that is oil based and the birch did not want to absorb the stain that well. It took some but not like a much softer wood.

Good find! 👍 - I'm in on buying some of that. The yoga mat material I have back there is not ideal.

Hey all y'all who used bedliner on these: did you prep the surface with anything before applying the coating?

And for those who went the carpet or rubberized mat route and recommendations for edge protection? Links?

I've been staring at the assembled drawers in my garage for far too long, time to get em finished and mounted!

I used U-Pol Raptor Liner. No prep beyond wiping off dust, but I recommend sanding edges smooth for better adhesion. Its a messy process if you spray- and you need a good respirator for rolling or spraying to keep fumes from melting a hole in your brain.

@trdtoyotrk Any pictures of your finished work?

Seadek was a nice choice.

This is installed in my 200 but this thread gave me lots of ideas and inspiration so I thought I would share.

I sanded everything very smooth because I had the time. To finish the wood I used a mix of 1 part Minwax Helmsman spar urethane, satin sheen, 1 part boiled linseed oil and, 1 part odorless mineral spirits. Details here: Our Shop Finish Recipe
I applied 5 thin coats over a week and then let it sit in my shed for 4 weeks to finish drying and stop smelling. The odor was mostly gone after a week. It was easy to apply and work with but did take a while to fully cure.

I went with the large SeaDek 40" x 80" Embossed Sheet in desert camo to cover the top. I'd recommend ordering their free sample kit to see all the colors and textures in person. https://www.seadek.com/SampleRequestForm The Desert Camo color matched my interior the best and hides dirt well. It was very easy to cut with a razor blade. My only wish is that I applied the full sheet to the top and wings and then made a cut for the wings, That would have made a perfect no gap seam. One thing to be aware of is that heavy sharp items such as a toolbox won't slide around. I think this is a good thing but can make loading items toward the front of the vehicle a little more difficult.

close up of texture and seam.

I also used the reef anchor ratchet straps, anchor plates, 200 series wing kit, and upgraded wing supports. The BlueSea systems switch panels controls power to my USB ports, power pole plugs, and some cheap led light stips I put in the drawers and wings. Very happy with how it all turned out and enjoyed the building.

I may eventually add tie-downs to secure a fridge or other cargo but right now I am enjoying the clean top.

That looks great! Do you happen to have a link to the Anderson plug fitting and cover? I'm switching my fridge to them.

I just shellacked mine. I use Bullseye shellac for almost everything as a sealer or even sometimes as a finish. It’s natural (comes from worms I think), alcohol based so easy to work with, and very forgiving. Stir the can (like anything, don’t shake or you’ll get bubbles) and apply with a clean rag. It can be touched up at any time by just reactivating the old finish with new product. Fine sand between coats and after final, I like to do three coats but two will do in a pinch, or even one as a sealer. 2nd and 3rd go on way faster than first.

It’s not nearly as impenetrable as a marine spar but so much easier to work with and it won’t stink up your truck.

I used a 1/16 round over with a laminate trimmer on all my outside edges and sanded a ton.

I often have my big dogs in and out of the back. How do you think the Seadeck would hold up to dog feet? I got some yoga mats because they’re cheap and easy to replace but I might try this if it seems durable enough.

@trdtoyotrk - thanks for the tip on the small sheets for the drawers. I might pick up a couple of those to test it out.

I think it would hold up okay. Because of the adhesive, it won't move or slide so your dogs should enjoy the traction and not cause damage. I'm sure boaters have lots of experience with this and their dogs if you search a little.

All I’ll say is this; Man I am impressed. Finished up assembly this week. On to finish. I’ll do a full report/review once I get some use out of em!!

Those seats look nice!!

How is everyone keeping stuff tied down on top of the drawers? I see some used aluminum tracks, are these just being drilled into the top out of the way of the drawer profile? I'll need to secure at least a fridge and large goal zero battery. Any pics and links to what's worked for you?

Making some progress, carpeted the inside bottoms of the drawers to make them a little less “hollow” sounding. Ordered some peel and stick carpet tile for the tops of the drawers and wings. Will finish the front edge with some aluminum angle. Really coming together. I ordered a bunch of tool pouches and things to start getting these drawers filled up.

I got the brand new iPhone, my first new phone in over 3 years. This wide angle camera is awesome!!
