I just discovered this toggle switch under the dash. Unless someone tells me he has the same switch, I assume it's a PO add-on. If I flip the switch with the engine running, the car will shut-off, but all the electrics still work. I can crank the engine, but the car will not start. What could be the intended purpose? Theft deterrent? Any guess as to what does the switch actually trigger?

Dang, I installed one in the same spot, for the same reason. Now I have to come up with another idea! Maybe use the cig lighter?

To know exactly where it goes, you would have to follow the wiring. Most likely, and if it were me doing something like that - I would put it on the coil. I would find the wiring in the cab that runs to the coil and bypass it there so that nothing under hood looks different.

In reality, there is no good theft deterrent. If someone wants it bad enough, they'll get it.

It will go to the coil.

No need for an anti start device. A thief won't try to drive an FJ40 away. They know it doesn't go very fast. :D
They will bring a roll back and a tarp. Gone and out of sight...:(

this is why I like driving my 3 on the tree 45's.......not many kids or thief's would know what to do, I am sure 99% would think its an auto shifter........then take the high low lever on the dash(if you have a really old one), put in neutral(or even low) and watch em go mad ;)

also....all are chit is Lojack'd

Hell, @Landpimp just shift the t-case into neutral or low would stump most people today.

My kill switch cuts the fuel line. Drive a few feet and it goes to sleep.

Isn't there a fuel cut off jet that's already on the carb? Turn that off and the truck goes no where. It would be easy to switch that from the dash.

I like the idea of a anti theft device that lets it start and drive away for couple hundred yards or so then dies, from a fuel shutoff that isn't readily found. Just enough fuel to get in an awkward situation for them.

That gets them in the street and if it won't run then, they are more likely to just bail and run rather than fix a stolen vehicle on the road.
Read about this used on LR in Europe, thought it made sense.

Of course as said, if pros or someone really serious wants it most any car is gone. I don't think Cruisers are going to be targeted by the chop shop or send it over seas type fortunately. More likely local knuckleheads.

I don't know what it is over here on the Big Island about wheels & tires. There is very very little theft, I guess in Hilo there probably is theft issues, but even in Kona not much.

But wheels & tires are a nuther thing! lol If your vehicle breaks down and is left on side of road over night, the wheels & tires will probably be gone in morning. Not just newer tires & nice wheels, worn out tires & crappy wheels doesn't matter. Nobody throws anything away here so if car won't run they just park em in the yard somewhere, but the tires & wheels will be gone. It can't be for scrap $, there will be plenty of metal that could be taken to recycle. Seems to be some sort of a local thing.

I also had the same switch on the dash of my 65 FJ40. Those switches are super generic so no surprise they show up on lots of other rigs. Mine also made it not able to start. However, mine was right next to the ignition switch which made it obvious. :hillbilly:
