I just picked up a 1983 4 speed last week and know I need to do some things right away. I've had a 1995 for about 15 years but obviously I am playing in a different sandbox now. I am wondering recommendations on where to source the following parts and if there is anything else I should do while I am at it so to speak. Trying to stick OEM unless unavailable or aftermarket has some great improvement. Total noob when it comes to these so go easy on me.
Fuel pump and sender
Fuel tank
Shocks I have always been a fan of OME.
Rear Shoes and Hardware
Rear Wheel cylinders
oil pan gasket
rear main seal
Clutch set
Transmission pan gasket
Already got head lights, battery cables and a rebuilt carb coming as well as some other basics but do not hold back on other things to get ahead of.
Thanks!!!

Nice.
More pictures please.

What’s up with the front bumper?

As for vendors, in no particular order:
Valley Hybrids/Terrain Tamer @orangefj45
Cruiser Outfit @cruiseroutfit
Cruiser Matt’s @cruisermatt
Mark’s Off-Road @65swb45
Cruiser Trash @CruiserTrash

There are more to consider for specific things but you could rebuild and accessorize a 60 series from the above vendors…

Also, you might want to see if your tank was done under recall, it’s a long shot but I’ve heard of a few folks getting it done recently.

As always, search is your friend. Google your inquiry with FJ60 included and you’ll get a bunch of helpful mud threads.

We would love to help @ Cruiser Outfitters! We speak very fluent FJ60 :D

A few examples from your parts list:

PS, shop this week/weekend and save 10%

We’d be more than happy to help. Our shop, Valley Hybrids, has been in business for 21 years and we work strictly on Cruisers. That’s literally all we do. Day in and day out. We worked on hundreds of 60 series cruisers. We can supply new OEM and aftermarket parts as well as used parts if new parts aren’t available.
More than happy to help. Below is a link on replacing the rear main seal and an oil pan gasket. That’s why I was taught many years ago. IMore than happy to help. Much of what you need should be available to order via your local Toyota (helps to locate part numbers and then go online or in person you will get to know them well lol). Rear drum hardware and shocks likely need to get from one of the great vendors @RevISK mentioned.

Have fun!

PS - don’t tag Mark for business requests - call. He seems to get a bit surly if you use Mud for work. 😉

Thanks for the mention @RevISK
I stock and sell all of the parts you mentioned as well as also having a full time service shop for thes etrucks, so after sales tech support is never an issue.
As he siad, you should run your VIN on the NHSTA recall check and make sure your tank recall hasn't already been done!

The only thing on your list I think will be hard is the transmission pan gasket. I don’t think ANY vendor carries one for the 60 series 4 speeds.

More pics!

I love my ome shocks just put on all four new ones with a new steering stabilizer (heavy load rated ones) I plan on getting arb front bumper and building a rear. My 60 now rides better than my wife’s 23 Tahoe.

All venders listed above are great none will treat you wrong.

Yep. Check into the fuel tank recall. I just got mine replaced under recall 2 weeks ago. I had to buy some extra parts to get the job done but the tank and labor was free.

Great looking truck! Thanks for including a photo in your introduction, lots of people don’t and that makes the 60 crowd kind of grumpy because we have to beg for photos haha.

That's a list. Do a search for how to replace the rear main by loosening up the bolts on the last crank bearing (you have to drop the oil pan to get to two of the four bolts. Aisin for your clutch kit and Kyosan for your fuel pump. Consider rebuilding your rear cylinders if the adjusters aren't frozen.. easy, cheap, and I don't trust most new castings of stuff these days. Damn I'm sounding like an old crank.

Also if you're in that far with the transmission, you may consider a transfer case rebuild. It's a split case but if it's never been opened, it might be time and it's always nice to get rid of the leaks. EDIT - also forgot, surface the flywheel, always part of a clutch job.

^^This, in a rush I replaced my rear brake pistons with parts from Napa. 9 months later the drivers side piston seals blew out. Luckily I discovered this 1 month prior to a 4500 mile road trip to SAS 9 and quickly purchased OEM pistons.

Looks like I am adding power steering pump to my list of things. Do you have your Saginaw kit in stock? From what I'm reading all the after market pumps are junk.

Yes sir. We do. And yes, sadly the aftermarket pumps seem to be “troublesome”.
