Alpine 9" in the new dash....100% absolutely unnecessary for me. But it will be a challenge to find the parts and for some reason, I seem to enjoy weird challenges....and that makes it worthwhile.

An outfit in Australia is using this HU with an oem 200 series steering wheel and enabling the control with the steering wheel buttons. Also I believe they’re modifying the cruiser control buttons to use winch control/aux lights/etc. pretty neat stuff.

That steering wheel is actually really cool. I was trying to delete my airbags on this one and I need a new steering wheel and I really like steering wheel controls. As much as I would like a different/larger headunit, I can't do ones without volume knobs. I have a JVC in my 79 that has a volume knob...its perfect. For me at least. I would guess that I could take a US 200 series wheel and get an adapter kit to make the controls on it work with whatever head unit I run. But that's for the other truck.....lots of time to decide on that. Thanks for that link though...they have some neat stuff.

Pretty sure that PVS is using a stock LC7X steering wheel with the 200 series air bag and steering wheel controls(and clock spring). Then they just use a universal wireless adapter for the controls to work the radio or they use a hardwired adapter. We can build that setup. Just need to confirm that the steering wheel from the LC79 is the same as the LC200.....all the 4 spokes seem to be the same.

All this steering wheel talk has got me distracted.....back to the story.

After 3 LONG weeks of checking the status daily of the shipment, it finally got into port on the 28th of Sept. And that started the never ending outlay of $$ for all kinds of interesting charges.....for instance, Port Congestion fee of $17.41. Hmmmmm. OK. I'll pay....just get me my stuff. I also realized something kind of odd....the company I was dealing with was in NY....and it looked like the shipment was in NY. I was under the impression that the shipment was going from Johannesburg to Miami.....what a rookie. So with some panicked calls to some nice people at the shipping company, I found out that the shipment would be transferred by truck to Miami.

It arrived in Miami on the 9th.....paid some more to clear customs(I think....I'm not sure what I was paying for at that point but I knew I am in FL and my crate was in FL. Once the final payment was handled....the broker I hired in Miami said come on down and get it. Music to my ears.

We were there on the 10th I think.....and it was somewhere behind all this chain link.

Finally.....3 packages emerge and we load them up and get out of Miami. Nothing was damaged(I was expecting a half crushed crate with some big burly loading guy saying "arrived like that". Luckily no such crushed crates. Loaded up, headed to Tampa.

I had tried to get all this stuff prior to us going up to the 4th Annual 70 Series Meet and Greet but we just couldn't pull it off. I screwed around changing things, ordering more, etc. I know some of these pics are probably somewhere else in this section but I figured I would post them up again. The meet and greet was great fun....I feel like it's something I will do for a long time...if there are more of course! Meeting some of the members I have communicated with over the years was great. And of course seeing all the 70s out there was pretty cool too. We hauled up a HZJ73 I bought over the summer(trying to bump up the numbers of 70s in attendance)...never really got to take it out which was a bit of a disappointment but there's always next year.

Lots of questions at the various rest stops along the way.

Cool view of an area right near where we camped at Windrock. We don't have these strange things called mountains in FL.

Yeah, the SE 70 crew is something special....

Wheeling in the 79 was interesting....I realized a couple of things:

1. I was thankful I put a locker in before we left
2. I have never wheeled a long wheel base Land Cruiser....only 40s...little bit of a learning curve
3. I will never believe anyone that says, "I was on this trail last year.....it's easy"
4. FZJ80s will go anywhere and make it look easy

A little sketchy wheeling a truck that isn't so easy to get parts for AND has to drive 700 miles back home. All in all it was great. I'm really protective of this truck too.....40s I've had/wheeled in the past I didn't care so much about. This truck is a tiny bit different. My brain was racing most of the time thinking about how the next one will be built to be more protected off road.

Lined up, ready to spend 6 hours going 5 miles on Trail 22 at Windrock.

And if this isn't a cool pic, I don't know what is. I really need to do a Troopy....

Beautiful trucks and scenery - and some cool people to boot. No offense, but with all them white rigs, 'yall need some color diversity. Hee hee...

Well you can count us in. Maybe we'll have the next 79 ready for one.....someday.

I have a feeling the next truck is going to get painted a different color. Will be a shame to have to repaint the canopy but I'm thinking that maybe I'll keep the tent white, canopy body colored on exterior.....white inside. We'll see. Long way to go.

Maybe just some cool Toyota colored stripes and graphics would be cool on a white one.

Any color is great on a 79 :)

I’m in the anything but white group as well. Right now Im planning on Kabota orange or excavator blue on my 75. Leaning toward the orange still but I’m a good ways off before actually having to pick a color.

Lol....I was almost going to say, "any color but orange would work on a 79".....which is strange because I've been on a huge orange kick for the last 4 years or so. I think the right orange would be kind of cool.

Saw this bitchin' 71(?) at Expo East.....the color was killer. Maybe dune beige or a variant of it. I kind of think whatever I will do will be an off white of some sorts....Porsche has a really cool color called Chalk...it's kind of white but not white. Really cool.

What's wrong with white?
